020123 Archiscraps February Challenge

Pink + a heart

Julene has really set a girly mood for us at Archiscraps this month!

My youngest grandgirly had a great time as a 1st grade cheerleader.

Yes - they start them early! The girls got a brief spate of sessions to introduce them to the basics and then a trial run on the sidelines before their guest appearance.

My daughter took the photos & got great close-ups! Her cousin gave her a lot of tips & pointers, and had been helping her learn how to do a cartwheel. I think we have a natural gymnast 💕

Plug into your girlie side & think pink!

011823 CKC January Challenge #2 - Make It New Again!

Master Forger of Ceremonies Lisa says:

In our first challenge of the year, I went back to a design style that I used a lot when I first started scrapping - double page spreads - and encouraged you to give it a go.

On the same theme, this time around I'd like you to think back to when you first started scrapbooking (or at least, look back to sometime in the past) and find a technique that you used a lot which has got forgotten along the way as you have changed and developed your scrapbook style.

So, bring that technique back into style and find a way to use it on a page today that is right up to date!

I took a look back over 20 years ago (!) to refresh my memory, to LayOutADay "LOAD" October 2010. It was my first scrapbooking challenge and I signed up at 11:30 pm the night before it started. I seem to have defaulted often to an "L" shaped arrangement on my pages. Here's a good sampling...

I'm using this general arrangement with my "Celebrating Us" page kit.

(I just realized - I forgot to use that chippy rose!)

Day 3 of the LOAD challenge was to pick a photo that tells a story without words = no journaling but a title is okay. I chose a recent photo of us. We just celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary!

I love how this turned out! I pulled in a Vicki Boutin cheater paper for my background. Apparently I was much more of a minimalist scrapper back in the day! Don't you love to see how scrapping has changed over the years? What a blessing to have all of the things available today.

Be sure that you share your creation with us. If the idea of making a layout every day of the month for the LOAD challenge intrigues you, a new one is starting in February! Here's the LINK.

011223 CKC January Challenge #1 - Sketch It!

Master Forger of Ceremonies Lisa says:

When I first started scrapbooking, almost all my layouts were double spreads and I kind of miss them! So, let's start the new year with a fabulous Page Maps double sketch which was featured in Scrapbook and Cards Today in their Project 12 feature (January 2010).

If you make a lot of spreads, this will be right up your alley and if you don't normally, this is a chance to stretch those creative muscles and give it a go! Double pages are a super way to include lots of photos and journalling with plenty of space for embellishments and all the fun stuff too!

Sketches are such a fun way to create - copy it exactly, or totally tweak it and make it your own.

I knew right away that I would scrap my grandson's first season of football! So many photos to include - this sketch will help me winnow down my choices & do him justice documenting his amazing journey.

I actually used my daughter's photo collages with a little rearranging and my "Star Defender" page kit.

I fussy-cut some of the cut-apart cards for embellishments.

I used some of the stamps I included in my kit to add some embellishments to a few photos.

My little man! He's not even 11 in these photos but it's happening too fast...

This two page sketch might help you scrap some of your holiday photos, or perhaps a short trip? It felt good to have that much real estate to work with! I hope you are inspired to give it a try!

And of course, as always, we have a full month of inspiration to keep you inspired!

  • 18th January: Challenges #1 & #2 - to inspire you to get creating from your own kit
  • 24th January: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  • 31st January: Killing Kits - an idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box

You KNOW that we always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can post them in our Facebook Communityor share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcjanuary2023).

010123 CKC January Kit Reveal & Blog Hop

A new month, a new year, a new CKC kit to counterfeit, and a new Guest Designer - please welcome Anandi!

"I started buying scrapbook products in 2007 because I love paper, stickers, and stationery. I didn't have the courage to start actually scrapbooking until I did Project Life in 2012. I fell into a slump in 2020 and 2021 (like a lot of people!) and what got me back to my table was the Counterfeit Kit Challenge last summer. I shopped my stash and made whatever layout I felt like making in the moment. So grateful for this challenge!"

Master Forger of Ceremonies Lisa has chosen the December 2022 Hip Kit Club main kit.

I knew right away that I didn't need a seasonal winter kit, so I set out to troll for some paper matches for the 24 patterns represented. Some things I noticed: three dark papers - the woodgrain & the two dark backgrounds; mustard dotted & hot pink patterned, bold floral & diamonds, delicate patterns.

Welcome to my trio of page kits, Triple Play!
