010117 January Archi-scraps Challenge

Starting out the year with another exciting inspiration at Archi-scraps!

One of the many beautiful domes in the Alhambra, Spain.
Such delicate work , like fine lacework.
JANUARY challenge -use lace.
This also works for the Whimsical Musings Challenge #241 - lace!

The obvious choice would be product.
The trick for me? Deciding on a photo or story.
Fortunately I came upon the most gloriously frosty window.

I had just pulled my January counterfeit kit for CKC (reveal post tomorrow) and purely for my
own pleasure had included a couple of rogue papers, one of which totally rocked for my background.
I used the great assortment of alphas for my title & I couldn't be more pleased.
The frosty Dear Lizzie Thickers were perfect!

The 2008 Fancy Pants Designs "Arctic Chill/Polar" paper by jackie eckles is
beautifully graphic & the unexpected color makes a great contrast to the black & white image.

I used silver thread to stitch the pale green Heidi Swapp ghost
letters down using a simple stitch reminiscent of snowflakes.

A touch of silver snowflake ribbon top & bottom finish off the page.
My brilliant meteorogist & Bible scholar husband had the perfect verse.

I'll be watching to see your post in the Linky!

Happy New Year!

120116 December Archi-scraps Challenge

The amazingly clever December Archi-scraps challenge is to use COGS.

I had the perfect product, if I could only find it!
Have been moving & am continuing to unpack :)

I picked a manly photo:

My page:

Picked paper to go along a manly theme, metallic Tim Holtz & bold black alpha for my title, and a cog-like image for the large accentz. A fun page to put together!

Thx for looking!

100616 CKC October Challenge #1

Challenge #1 for October 2016 - Snip! Snip!

"Pumpkin carving is a popular activity at this time of the year, with patterns ranging from the traditional triangle-faced Jack O'lanterns to much more intricate designs. Our first challenge this month is the scrapbooking equivalent of pumpkin carving - fussy-cutting! Use your scissors to trim one or more designs or images from patterned paper and then use the cut image(s) on a project."

It is somewhat ironic that I drew this challenge (thanks, Susan!) as I frequently fussy-cut beautiful patterned papers for my layouts. This month my kit had some great florals so I decided to do a wreath surrounding my photo. I sometimes get a little bogged down with covering up pretty papers but I managed to make this work to my liking.

It's like you're peeking through a window at the scene.

My journaling talks about how we've bought bikes & are exploring the local rail trails - biking/walking/skating paths utilizing old railway lines. They were made quite level & raised so are perfectly suited for these kinds of recreation/exercise. I've done a recent blog post about it HERE

Give your kit a look & see what elements you can carve out of those gorgeous papers!
Make sure you post to the Linky.

Thanks for stopping by!

100116 October Archi-scraps Challenge

Things are a bit "tangled" at Archi-scraps this month...

ZEN-TANGLED

that is!

 Here is my attempt:

I have always loved to doodle & decided to use my photo as the starting point.
I used inspiration from Pinterest for ideas for the details.
I wanted to be sure & leave a good bit of white space as my photo was light & bright.

Hope you have fun with this one this month.

090616 CKC September Challenge #1

CKC Challenge #1
"Sketches are a great way to speed up the scrapbook process, or at least take one decision out of the scrapbooking process. Margie's favorite sketches are by Shimelle, so the challenge is to use a Shimelle sketch for your project  http://www.shimelle.com/category/sketch-of-the-week/. You can use any sketch from this link, but please share which one you used with us!"

I chose Sketch 34. All that white space could possibly give me the option of a fun background paper.

Now what story do I want to tell?
Actually, I really loved the page by Corrie Jones shown in the post...

...and since my theme this month is counterfeit counterfeiting I've done a scraplift!

Addie was the perfect birthday princess :)

I fussy-cut "hello" from a card that came from Jeana in the kit. The background paper is the light pink solid (red on the reverse) & I left the scallop branding strip on as a border at the bottom. Three vellum circles help you eye move around the page. I tried my hole punch confetti again instead of mist splats, some tiny ones from the red on the back side.

There are always really fun & cute stamp sets in the FJ kit! I've accented the vellum circle (above) plus the hello tag below & the cute column of tiny hearts. I substituted staples for the stitching. (You can see the pinkish hue of the darker red from the reverse side reflecting off of my backdrop around the edge.)

There will certainly be more birthday layouts this month as the kit is perfect for it!
Now get to work on Challenge #1 (wink-wink)
