010123 Archiscraps January Challenge

Julene is starting out the first 2023 Archiscraps challenge with an uber-clever twist!

Incorporate some architecture on your layout! Perhaps in the embellishments, background, or even your photo. Secondly, twist the sketch to suit your photos, or even adapt it for a card!

I have a building in one of my photos - a chicken coop!

Post your version of this month's challenge at our Archiscraps Community Group on Facebook.

111222 CKC November Challenge #1 - Life Right Now!

Master Forger of Ceremonies Lisa says,  The original kit includes a pack of embellishments from the Pinkfresh Studio Life Right Now! collection and that seems like a great place to start our challenges this month.

Record something about your life right now!

The small things or the big things in life are always perfect for us memory keepers so dig in and see what makes it onto your page this month!

I love these types of pages! I went to my kit for inspiration & chose tickets from the 2022 Pinkfresh/Life Right Now! Slow Days paper with relevant sentiments.

Then I chose the 2019 Pinkfresh My Favorite Story/Best Chapter for my background.

I added a sentiment from the 2022 Pinkfresh Life Right Now!/Time For Fun paper, "Enjoy the little things."

I used one of the 2020 Pinkfresh Days of Splendor tags (pictured at top of post) as a subtitle, "Everyday magic" & dressed it up with some of the ephemera collection. Then I hung the tag, plus each ticket, photo & embellishment, from the title. I'm so happy with how it came out! I'm not normally a collection scrapper.

And of course, as always, we have a full month of inspiration to keep you inspired!

November is going to look something like this:

  • 18th November: Challenge #2 - to inspire you to get creating from your own kit
  • 22nd NovemberAn extra challenge to add a little extra inspiration this month!
  • 24th November: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  • 30th November: Killing Kits - an idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box

You KNOW that we always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can post them in our Facebook Communityor share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcnovember2022).

110122 - CKC November Blog Hop & Kit Reveal

Harvest Time!

Master Forger of Ceremonies Lisa has a really inspiring inspiration kit for us this month! But first, let's find out who will don the Guest Designer beret again in November? Lisa's introduction:

This month, I’m delighted to have Machelle Willing join us as our Guest Designer. She’s been kitting with us for a long time and it’s always lovely to see her kits and creations – if you don’t already know her, you are going to love her!

"Hello, my name is Machelle & I am excited to be a Guest Designer once again for Counterfeit Kit Challenge!  I have been scrapbooking for over 20 years, so I have quite a stash built up and I love to follow along with CKC every month for inspiration to use what I have!

I live in Central Texas with my husband, two dogs and a cat. In addition to scrapbooking, I love to make cards, crochet and pretty much anything I see on Pinterest. You can check out my projects on my website, Small Town Scrap, or follow me on FacebookInstagram or Pinterest."

On to our kit! Lisa says,

I like to have a look around and see if I can find an inspiration kit from outside the US and was rather taken with the Scrapbook Werkstatt October 2022 kit “Herbstzauber” (Autumn Magic) from here in Germany.

I’m happy that this is a somewhat different kit for the autumn we find ourselves in in the northern hemisphere, but I think it has the option of being taken in different directions to fit where you are and how you feel about this time of year depending on where you put your focus. And of course, it’s a kit with “regular” products rather than kit exclusives so you might have a piece or two in your own stash which is sometimes a good place to start. Anyway, I think it’s bright and funky and full of energy, so I hope you enjoy making your own. Herbstzauber!

Papers:

I have to sincerely apologize - this may be my most uninspired kit reveal ever. No excuses.

I knew I had 3 of the inspiration papers (asterisked below). I had some of the warehouse boxes from Pinkfresh Studios so I used a lot of the embellishments from other collections. But my immediate thrill after a look at this kit was that balloon paper - a cheap knockoff of the featured paper in the BasicGrey 2011 What's Up collection, which I OWN.

The whole package is in reserve at the bottom of the Magic Blue Box!

Meanwhile, here are my papers & embellishments:

A sides Column 1: *2022 PinkFresh Life Right Now/Time for Fun, 2021 PinkFresh Happy Blooms/Memories b-side, *2022 PinkFresh Life Right Now/Slow Days, 2014 Echo Park Getaway/Travel Script; Column 2: 2011 BasicGrey What's Up/Balloon Festival, not pictured - 2022 PinkFresh Life Right Now/Social Hour (replaced pocket cards with phrases), 2019 Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Heritage/Generations, *2020 AC Paige Evans Wonders.

B sides Column 3: *2022 PinkFresh Life Right Now/Time for Fun b-side, 2021 Lawn Fawn Watercolor Washes/Rose Quartz, *2022 PinkFresh Life Right Now/Slow Days, 2015 Elle's Studio Thankful/Sweater; Column 4: 2022 AC Jen Hadfield Stardust/So Fresh, 2022 Cocoa Vanilla No Limits/ Orbit, 2019 PinkFresh My Favorite Story/ Best Chapter, 2022 Asuka Studio Wonderland/Rabbit Hole b-side.

I'm really looking forward to using this kit! Lisa really picked a good one.

I hope you're ready for another month of scrappy fun! Join us for the full reveal hop:

100122 Archi-scraps November Challenge - Steampunk

What a fun "tiny house" eh?

Wouldn't you love to see how the owner dresses? Julene always manages to find interesting & engaging inspirations for us at Archiscraps!

I found this stunning example of steampunk style, just for your enjoyment:

Link HERE

I wish I had the ambition to try this! The video is very good instruction, by the way.

Here is my version of steampunk style. I began with the fabulous "Wonderland/Adventure" b-side  background paper from Asuka Studio/Memory Place. Then I hunted & gathered  all sorts of stamps, gears, and vintage images from my stash.

The perfect card quote sparked my idea, "I cannot imagine the clockwork of the universe can exist without a clockmaker." - Voltaire

My answer comes from the Bible & became my title, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork." Psalm 19:1

The photo is an enhanced image of our night sky out back.

090122 CKC September Kit Reveal & Blog Hop

It's hard to believe it's already September, 2022!

Counterfeit Kit Challenge will be run this month by Master Forger of Ceremonies Juliet. First, let's meet her Guest Designer, Christine Harden!

I'm excited to join!

My name is Christine Harden and I have been scrapbooking about 23 years (since my daughter was 6 months old). In October I will have been married to my high school sweetheart for 31 years and we have one daughter. I am a 12x12 scrapbooker, mostly single pages, but do have the occasional two pager. It is very hard to pick a single favorite manufacturer, as I think so many have their own unique look and feel, it would be like picking a favorite child.

I tend to be a collection scrapbooker, and add "stash" items when I think of it! My typical scrapbook time of day is 4:30 am!  I have a full time day job in addition to a side hustle and my scrapbooking hobby. I owned a scrapbook store 11 years ago, before online shopping took over the marketplace.  So my scrapbook room still looks like a store, or so I'm told.  :-)  I currently participate in hops Scraplift Crafternoon and MIUM (Mix it Up Monday). My favorite inspiration is sketches, and I really enjoy interpreting sketches with my own twist.

090122 Archiscraps September Challenge

Archiscraps October Challenge: use rolled paper

Another challenging challenge from Julene!

I thought I might tackle some rolled paper beads, but wasn't very excited about that. I headed to YouTube & searched "rolled paper" & found  DIY Easy Rolled Paper Rose Tutorial

And what subject would I document?

Please visit her on Instagram @franciscanunes_heartmakes

And what else could I use for my foundation paper but a CKC forgery? The paper behind my photos & journaling is a sample paper I created in this class.

I'm really curious to see what YOU come up with! Be sure to post over at Facebook Archiscraps Community Group

Happy Scrapping!

081822 CKC August Challenge #2 - Pennants

Master Forger of Ceremonies Julene has chosen to be inspired by the pennants in the inspiration kit for our CKC August Challenge #2!

I had these in my counterfeit kit

I ended up with a photo heavy layout so only used one.

Once again inspired by Master Forger Tara I gutted the travel paper & used it as a border (leaving me with all those yummy little square images for my stash. This is an early stop at the peaches on our epic April trip.

I never fail to find the perfect sentiments in the Tim Holtz sticker books!

The chipboard collections came in handy, too.

I really love this page. That pennant is such a cute embelli, actually made out of felt!

How will pennants inspire you, I wonder? Can't wait to see. Just a few more posts to finish out the month:

  • 24th August: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  • 31st August: Killing Kits - an idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box

081222 CKC August Challenge #1 - Lost or Found?

Master Forger of Ceremonies Julene has chosen a travel themed kit & the CKC Challenge #1 this month will follow suit!

Getting lost or finding something along the way.

I'm still working on pages from our epic trip this past spring. Two of our destinations were Canyonlands & Arches National Parks in Utah. Early that morning we stumbled upon a sign on our way out of Colorado & followed it to...

A fragile checkerboard of ancient sights scattered across 164,000 acres of high desert in the southwest corner of Colorado in the Great Sage Plain. 24 native tribes claim cultural affiliation, along with generations of farming & ranching families, they continue to have traditional & modern relationships with this landscape.

This area was the epicenter of Ancestral Puebloan communities. This enormous monument is a difficult place to navigate & there are just a few areas ready for the public to explore. It is an area to discover on your own, if you are prepared for the adventure of a lifetime.

It was the beautifully preserved ruin of the Lowry Pueblo community...

We were completely alone in that sunrise golden hour & explored to our heart's content. If we ever return to that part of the country we will see more of the land & it's few remaining pueblos, along with the visitor center & museum at Delores, Colorado.

I gutted my forged southwestern paper to create the border (and save a big hunk of that pretty paper, perhaps for other pages about this trip!)

I'm looking forward to hearing about some interesting stories! Be sure to post to the Facebook Counterfeit Kit Community & don't miss the next challenge & the rest of the month:

  • 18th August: Challenges #2 - to inspire you to keep creating from your own kit
