070116 Archi-scraps July Challenge

LINK
(Don't you just want to feed him an apple?)

This month's inspiration from Archi-scraps above produced the following criteria:
DISTRESSING-(include corrugated card if you want) -PLUS WOOD
(There doesn't have to be a horse on it.)
I had to smile at that last bit...

While browsing through recent vacation pics I chose these
two options for the obvious element - the weathered wood.

The first won out as I felt the pier would have to be a
large print & that wouldn't leave me much room to play!

I included wood veneer elements & wood-patterned sequins.
Some distress elements are the inked & dry-brushed "beach" wood veneer wood & the torn tulle.

An interesting detail to notice is how my title elements lined up with some of the details in my photo. I often notice those kinds of things when playing around with placement on a page. The palmetto and the "I" in life make a continuous visual line that marries that word to the photo even though it is hanging off of the edge. The "C" in beach borrows a starburst effect from the pickets in the fence...

More distressing with torn papers, messy stitching, & wood veneer accented with paint.
I used some walnut ink for some splatters (you can see a little on the kraft edge) but it turned out too dark. I used a white pen to mute the color & I'll confess that those white clouds hide a BIG splatter mess! I also dry-brushed the corrugated cardboard elements that flank the photo to mimic the fence.

It was fun to incorporate all of the criteria on this one!

(And no horse, teehee)

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Lovely page. I'm a big fan of inking up wood veneer as well.

  2. Love the colors you used - they just epitomize the beach for me. And I also like the way the corrugated paper extends the fence in your photo. This is such a beautiful and intentionally thought out page!

  5. This is truly gorgeous. What's not to love? I think I need some wood veneer effect sequins in my life - where do I get them?!?! And all the elements that you added to make this page the glorious page that it is are just perfect.
