080422 CKC August Forgery on the Fourth

I really loved the top second paper but knew I had NO-THING like it in my stash.

That's when I grabbed my jaunty beret & FORGED!

Citrus Twist April 2022 Travelogue Life Crafted kit

I searched for a base paper & found this:

2021 My Mind's Eye Gingham Foundry/Front Porch

Then I did this:

289 times!!!

To get this quite satisfactory counterfeit!

I often find a simple way to create what I need for my kit. That is half of what Counterfeit Kit Challenge is about - assembling a reasonable facsimile of the inspiration kit by stash diving & creating an imitation of the kit & its elements. Visit the blog & search the keyword tutorial or tutorials to see what the Master Forgers Design Team has forged over the years! Just another resource for you to utilize.

Don't miss anything this month - coming attractions for the rest of August:

  • 6th August: Mini-kit Reveal and Project Showcase - inspiration for a smaller kit or project idea
  • 12th & 18th August: Challenges #1 & #2 - to inspire you to get creating from your own kit
  • 24th August: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  • 31st August: Killing Kits - an idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box

We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. Post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcaugust2022).

060422 CKC June Forgery on the Fourth

Just a reminder of our inspiration kit:

Link HERE

First I really liked this Crate Paper #1 month card paper:

The Autumn Leaves alpha stamps were too large to do a vertical orientation. I stamped a second generation image with Archival black ink & then water colored each month a different color. I accidentally forgot to off-stamp September so I colored it grey to draw attention away from my mistake!

I did add a nice little feature. I used a tracing wheel to create perforations to make it easy to separate the months as needed!

Next up is Crate Paper #4. It's shown in the inspiration with the tiny dot but I liked the strip & sentiment side better!  I'm not sure which is actually the a-side.

So I took the easy way out & scavenged my washi supply, plus added some stamped sentiments here & there from my stash of Felicity Jane stamp sets & a few tiny images.

A slight cheat of the Paige Evans Bungalow Lane #22 tag paper.

I pulled a good selection of tags & laid them out on a 12x12" base. Just pretend that I've fussy-cut these when you see them on a layout!

(You old faithful CKCers might have spied that tag with the sequins - a very old forgery!)

Slipped one last counterfeit in at the last minute - I loved that Crate Paper #3 with the geometric letters, so I pulled this Shimelle/Little by Little paper & stitched the letters G-O. I can see using a vertical strip of this on a travel layout this month.

So have a little fun & try your hand at counterfeiting. It can be simple or elaborate but it's always FUN. Be sure to share with us so we can add to our repertoire of forgery techniques!

Here is what the rest of the month looks like.

  • 6th June: Mini kit Reveal and Project Showcase - Inspiration for a smaller kit or project ideas.
  • 12th and 18th June: Challenge #1 and #2 to inspire you to get creating from your own kit.
  • 24th June: Followers Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  • 30th June: Killing Kits - an idea or two focusing up the bits and pieces left in your own kit.

You know that we always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can post them in our Facebook Community or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcjune2022).

040422 CKC April Forgery on the Fourth

Forery is our reason for being here at Counterfeit Kit Challenge! It's been quite awhile since I've thrown myself into counterfeiting & I must confess I had a blast.

Papers and Beyond's Follow Your Bliss kit papers

First up is the flashiest - that Vicki Boutin wreath. I began by using the largest Altenew Creative Cutout: Nested Wreath (and by the way, what a great value - there are 9 pieces in this product pack) mounted to OneCanoeTwo's 2018 Saturday Afternoon Mosaic b-side.

Then I saw this beautiful DT creation from Steffi Ried at Paige Taylor Evans - swoon!

I used a variety of flower stamps from Vicki Boutin Fernwood  & Color Study on vellum with white embossing powder to finish off my wreath forgery, popping them up for dimension.

#2 is the Vicki Boutin Field Notes Field Notes paper. I remembered that I had a fountain pen stamp & started to forage for other stamps that might work. My version is ultra-simplified (feels like cheating!) but still carries the vintage vibe through. I adore VB papers but almost hate to cover it all up with my photos! This way I can easily use this version. I used Pink Paislee House of Three 2011 Daily Junque stampset - a total fave.

#3 the feathers. I found a bunch of feather stamps in my stash but couldn't decide how to get the colored effect without too much work, so I went for vintage gold heat embossing! I used the whole pack of 12 Momenta feather stamps as they came, which made quick work of the stamping. I just rotated it in different directions to fill the space. It's tough to capture the shine!

#4 are the happy pink daisy paper. I used a Vicki Boutin Color Study & an Inkadinkado floral stamps to heat emboss with white on a 2014 Amy Tangerine Rise & Shine paper! Another easy-peasy.

#5 is the tone on tone green leaves. My quick solution (after considering endless stamping) was to use a 6x6" Catherine Pooler Flourish & Whimsy stencil with spray inks. I used printer paper to mask off the edges & rotated the stencil one turn to the right each time I moved on to the next section. I sprayed first with Heidi Swapp Color Shine Chartreuse for the darker leaves.

After I did the four quadrants I oversprayed with Citron Color Shine. The final result is much less elegant than I had hoped but a fair forgery!

Last but not least #6 - the coffee cup stains! I used pieces of The Crafters Workshop 12x12" Well Rounded stencil plus a Recollections brand Splat stampset with Catherine Pooler, Vicki Boutin and Vic ? inks. I kept it somewhat simple again so I won't cover up the work I did.

The only other counterfeit that I made was a few of the wood button embellis.

Now I can get busy scrapping! Hope you are inspired :-)

Here's what we still have in store for you this month:

  • 6th April - Mini Kit and Project Reveal
  • 12th April - Challenge #1
  • 18th April - Challenge #2

100421 October CKC Forgery on the Fourth

Good October, fellow Forgers!

What great inspiration kits for counterfeiting this month at CKC.

Hip Kit Club May Main Kit

Hip Kit Club May Papers
Hip Kit Club May Pocket Life Kit

Hip Kit Club May Embellishment Kit

I focused on the Amy Tangerine paper b-side & the Paige Evans banner embellishments.

The paper was an easy-peasy forgery using washi tape!

The banners were made using a stamp set from Forever in Time + a Pink Paislee Horizon 6x8 pad. I  thought that the scale of a smaller paper pad would suit this better & it reminded me of the original kit.

I stamped the banners on the blue & pink solid papers and cut off the banner ends. I inked up the stamps again - just the ends - and stamped them onto patterned paper.

The largest banner also had a third small element that was a "reveal" of the backside of the banner & I used a darker section of the pink paper for that. Some fussy-cutting & gluing was all that remained to give me a really great counterfeit!

I've got an organizer of smaller alpha stamp sets beside me this month to play with & will add the pink sentiment as needed. Have any of you tried this nuvo glue? My goodness - it's wonderful! It NEVER clogs, tiny stream & in a cute blingie bottle.

I put together a Mixed Media kit which I forgot to show in my reveal:

Also a Space Add-On kit for a specific page I'll be making with the map paper - stay tuned!

I know there will be more inspiration from some of the other Master Forgers, and I hope you will share YOUR counterfeits with all of us. Don't forget what's coming up next:

  • 6th October: Mini-kit Reveal and Project Showcase - inspiration for a smaller kit or project idea
  • 12th & 18th October: Challenges #1 & #2 - to inspire you to get creating from your own kit
  • 24th October: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month

070421 July CKC Forgery on the Fourth

So here is where Master Forger of Ceremonies Lisa drew her inspiration this month!

Paper Person April 2021 New Episode kit

I "tore" right into my forged papers & "punched" my way to counterfeiting victory! The papers I chose to forge from the American Crafts Buenos Dias collection by Obed Marshall are:

this specialty paper,

(made with 12x12" white cardstock & punched shaped confetti)

the En Casa paper,

(made with a perfect 6x8" mystery scrap & more punched shaped confetti)

and Sorpresa.

(layers of torn cardstock as close as I could come to the colours)

The leftovers from the tearing came in handy to punch the confetti from, which (bonus!) makes it all look like it belongs together. I'm thinking I'll have to hunt up some throwback desert photos to use with this forgery.

I hope these counterfeits continue to encourage you to try an easy-peasy approach to forging whichever elements catch your eye. Bring new life to your forgotten stash! Be sure to share and of course, as always, we have a full month of inspiration to keep you inspired!

You can look forward to these posts in July:
