041215 CKC April Challenge #2

Challenge #2 this month is to use this sketch from Paper Players:

Blog post HERE
The sketch is really designed for a card but we are no strangers to the art of the change-up at CKC!

This page was based on a series of unfortunate events in late March,
which I began to refer to as "A Deer in the Headlights & an Elephant in the Sink."
As soon as I said it out loud I thought, That sounds like a GREAT title for a scrapbook page :)

I got around to working on the page a few days later.
Imagine my shock to find these when having a rummage in my kit!

Trying always to keep to what's in the Magic Blue Box whenever possible I chose
this custom 9x12" forged paper which gives me the circular element in the sketch.
I added another few inches of white cardstock to make it 12x12".

With a long title by the time I add the photos & embellis there won't be much room to tell the story.
I used the question mark card for journaling by using my forged washi tape to make a hinge.

I used some gold letters to highlight the words deer & elephant.
I added gold metallic paper to the back side of the question mark for a bold third gold element.
The Jillibean Soup alpha stamp set filled in the rest of the words in the title.
(I am trying to resist adding stitching & ink & just plain more.)

(...sigh... I wish gold photographed better)
I feel like the left side of my page taken all together reads a bit as the sketch's vertical element.

Even the quote for the deer seems appropriate, lol!

This is promising to be a fun kit!

Thanks for stopping by!

030615 CKC March Challenge #1

It's the 6th and time for the first challenge from Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog!

Challenge #1: Border Craze:  Use dies cuts, stickers, gems, stamps
to create a border around your page!  Get creative!

I was a little afraid of this one =8~O
I decided to use the MME Jubilee Tangerine Mixed Bag of embellis.

Got this far but something was definitely not working so hot...
and everything but the shield, photo & mat were stuck down!

I pulled these goodies from my kit in the hopes of perking things up.

All along I had known that the Color Shine schmutz application
would make all that white background behave.
What I needed was a way to get the border to LOOK like a border!

Here is a close-up of those Heidi Swapp stamps.
I keep these out on my desk to add that "little something".
I love the extra detailing that stamping adds & it definitely helped save this page.

This piece in the banner stood out like a sore thumb until I added the tiny sentiment heart.

Even this star sequin stamp perked up my border.
I changed out the floral elements for flair, added some twine to the banner,
a little journaling across the top & some Jubilee Project Life-style cards
underneath the photo mat. It's all quite busy but that's how it feels with
the boys here, so I'll pretend I did that on purpose!

Hope to see your own creation for Challenge #1 at CKC.

Thanks for stopping by!

110414 CKC November Tutorials

Wow! A lot of fun things to forge this month from the Fabulous Fall kit.

I tackled some Project Life styled cards (there is a whole sheet to cut apart in the original.)

I used some gold foil paper to create an embelli similar to
the Maya Road heart & leaf paper clips.

I couldn't let the scraps go to waste so I punched some random confetti!

I thought I could forge the We R Memory Keepers
metallic copper sentiment vellum paper.

But the question was...

Yes, it did!
I taped some ruled paper behind to keep my writing straight.

I grabbed some more of the gold foil paper & raided my washi stash...

...to forge this MME Market Street "Ashbury Heights" paper.

I like mine better & the gold even shows through the patterns.

By far the most ambitious forgery was a nod to the We R
Memory Keepers Indian Summer Feathers paper -

only in GOLD, using a gilding
kit & Amy Tan feather stamp.

I did a test to make sure the stamp wasn't too fine of a design.

The process:
I stamped the leaves with the gilding adhesive & let it dry until tacky.
I added pieces of the gilt paper & smoothed it on with a soft brush.
As you continue to brush the excess gilding pulls away to reveal your design.

Voila! I love it.

Of course, you could just as easily do this with regular glue & a super fine glitter.
That would be fun! A counterfeit of  a counterfeit.

Hope we have inspired you to new heights of forgery this month :-)

Let me know you were here!

110114 CKC November Kit Reveal

Look at this lovely from Scrapbook & Cards Today
Crop & Create Delivered kit, "Fabulous Fall".

Be sure & give a warm welcome to our Guest Designer, Binty!

I have been a little sad & missing a vintage vibe in my kits. Although I have
turned this one on its head this month it was within the bounds of the inspiration.

Let's open up the Magic Blue Box...

 & have a look at

As usual, I started with the papers:

First row: The yellow lace stands in for the yellow doilies. I discovered I have very
few striped papers, so I have subbed in the roses (& later the rocket ships!) A softer red
for the coral, a bird paper, an X paper for the + paper, and a gold vellum dot.

The second row: Large scale print, vibrant green, neutral, blue/green, the rockets, and blue damask.

Here's the full kit:

I've made a whole set of vintage PLstyle cards from free images from The Graphics Fairy.
Although I had some burlap alphas I opted for some linen look chip alphas, map & bright
yellow scripty Thickers. A pack of Paper Studio assorted ribbon & tossed in some Prima
flowers as they were just the right shades. Jenni Bowlin Flatback flair, 7 Gypsies tags, Anna
Griffin transparencies, a couple of small crocheted doilies & an assortment of stick pins!

Here's a closer look:

I have finally decided I'm on board with a certain trend, so I've put together an add-on!

You'll be seeing more about the forgeries in here on the CKC tutorial post on the 4th.

080113 August Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog Hop!

"Be strong, be you, be true! CONFIDENCE will help you explore the things that hold you back from creating the life you dream of, and help you express your inner warrior." That was our introduction to the 2008 CONFIDENCE kit. Today, CONFIDENCE seems more nuanced, doesn't it? Who is the woman you are today and how did you become that woman?

This was the intro for this month's kit
The Confidence Kit from Scrapbooking From The Inside Out:

I was worried from the get-go about the color scheme but decided to press on.
My first direction was to embrace the blue & red, turn the tan/browns into yellow,
but my stash did not cooperate in turning up the types of papers in the inspiration kit.

I was a tad dismayed - the harder I tried to pull papers the more of a jumble I had!
I began to pull other accents & embellis, thinking that the papers could come later.
That didn't work either... I wanted a kit I was excited to scrap with, so I went rogue.
Rogue with a focus & a plan...

Breaking down the inspiration papers:
Top row (L-R): large pattern/light background, small/dark, large/dark, small/light
Bottom row: chevron/convo bubbles, light blue, horizontal, b/w, red polka dot

First I made this forgery!

Tidying up my happy scrappy place yielded my color inspiration!

Be still my heart!
Adding the pink to the red & blue made me SO happy :~)

The main accent elements in the kit were
Project Life-style cards & journaling blocks & polaroids...

...so I gathered up some 6x6 papers,
a variety of stamps & alphas, paints & pens...

Now let's open the Magic Blue Box!

"Girl Power"

Now it's time for YOU to join in the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog fun, dive into your beloved scrap stash & craft your own unique kit inspired by Confidence.
