100115 Archiscraps October Challenge

Another intriguing Archiscrap inspiration this month!

Use MOSAICS

At first I got a little sidetracked with the colors, but then 

a happy accident brought this to me via Whimsical Musings #184

I thought those strips at the bottom could be modified to look like mosaic,

plus I remembered that I had these sweet little Prima tiles.

I was envisioning them smooshed into modeling paste...

funny how far from your original inspiration you can get!

I did use the modeling paste to add this beautiful lace effect.

I raided my 6x6" paper pad hoard for any & all possibilities.

I am trying to remember this grossly overlooked resource!

A few Prima flowers, vellum lace borders a little stitching, and my

favorite die cut of the delicate vining flowers out of vellum fill things in nicely.

Alaska Trip: Day Thirteen, Cruising the Inside Passage

A leisurely day ahead...

We will be going through the Narrows & looking for whales.

Humpback

This crazy humpback was going berserk... almost as much as the ranger!
I'm hoping to add a slideshow/video of it.

He ended with a crazy flourish

We got to watch this pod of orcas for quite some time.

 Lori & Serena threw a little AAA farewell party.

Definitely the trip of a lifetime...

...but it's time to head home.

Goodbye, Alaska!

We fly out of Vancouver first thing in the morning.

Alaska Trip: Day Twelve, Ketchikan

Monday

Breakfast never arrived in our room & we discovered there is a breakfast buffet.
This morning - seven different kinds of Eggs Benedict... yes, please!

Out for an early stroll as we close in on Ketchikan.

Dockside.

Some shopping & sampling of salmon...
our next excursion is to the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary,
at the edge of the Tongass National Forest at Herring Cove.

And there is evidence of bears...

God did not disappoint!
Here's momma...

And the twins having a wrestle...

 

 It's no wonder they are here.
Just next door is a salmon fishery!

There are a lot of conservation measures in place to ensure the salmon population stays robust.
Some of these salmon are returning to the fishery where they were spawned.
The color on this one indicates it has already spawned & is dying.

With others, instinct prevails & they want to keep going upstream.

The gulls are happy to take advantage of the situation.

And so are the bears...

Like this elusive fellow.

And of course there are other creatures worth seeing.

A magpie - these are so beautiful

All of these birds were rescues & cannot live free.
They are kept in an aviary where, if able, they can fly.

Can't remember, but this may be Snowy Owl with summer plumage

This bald eagle has a genetic anomaly that causes his beak to grow
like a scissor, which makes it impossible for him to eat.
They are able to file it down so it is functional.

Tonight we see the magician's show.
Tomorrow is our last day :(
We will spend it cruising the Inland Passage on our way to Vancouver.
