030120 March Archi-scraps Challenge

Your peaceful place
Although the March Archi-scraps challenge photo didn't inspire peace in me (hanging off of a cliff in a hammock?!?), it gave me yet another chance to document my faith in & love for my Saviour, Jesus Christ.

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:" Isaiah 26:3-4

Shalom was my 2018-2019 one little word & that was the verse that God gave me about it. The reverse of the journaling tag holds the Hebrew definition.

"Shalom: peace, harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity, wellness & tranquility."

I used my February Counterfeit Kit Challenge "The Bees Knees" kit for my supplies.  The rose leaded window strip across the middle is from the DCWV Once Upon a Time collection - an oldie but a goodie! The cross photo is mounted on mats from the Stamperia/Cosmos collection. The pink flowers are from Paper Studio.

The journaling tag was cut from Pinkfresh/Indigo Hills "Eminence" & I typed the Bible verse onto a vellum overlay using my vintage typewriter. The stitching detail is a rub on to cover up a mess that I made with actual machine stitching! I heat embossed my word on the reverse side & wrote the definition with a white Gelly Roll pen. The tiny "grace" pull was fussy cut from one of the 7 Gypsies/Trousseau papers.

021820 CKC February Challenge #2

Master Forger Julene says: One of the inclusions in the kit was bees. Let them inspire you in some way - think bees, hives, honey, recipes, etc. If you have a bee photo scrap it. Maybe you have a honey recipe you can scrap about. Has someone been stung by a bee?

Oh, yes - I definitely have a bee sting story.

I got a wee bit excited about this challenge & as soon as my kit was hunted & gathered I dove right in. Sometimes you get an inspiration download directly out of your brain, right? Well, I got most of it done before I realized that I hadn't photoed my kit yet! Oops, but you'll understand why when I show you the gorgeous paper I was slicing & dicing with abandon:

Graphic 45 2018 Flutter collection/Memorable
*And there are bees on the "bee" side, lol!*
I've had large hexagons on my mind for some time now & since they look like beehives the design began to take shape quickly. The bees on the b-side are actually printed in a hexagon pattern. This paper has lots of hidden bees & insect images that I wanted to showcase in the hexagons. I made a fussy-cutting pattern sheet with a large hexagon that I made myself plus punched shapes.

It's hard to photograph but the background has a pale pink tinge to it & is slightly distressed.

Had so much fun with this one - story, products & photo - a great trifecta.

Here's what we have coming up for the rest of this month:
  • February 24th: Julene's showcase of one of the CKC community who's caught her eye this month.
  • February 27th: We'll be offering another installment in our Killing Kits Series to help you find ways to use up all of your kit.

I hope you are inspired to create something that you will "bee" happy with!

We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can use our Monthly Link-up page, post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcfebruary2020).

020420 CKC February Forgery on the Fourth

The February Counterfeit Kit Challenge inspiration kit had one item that I found irresistible!
THE BEES!
Aren't these adorable? I'm thinking that along with some of the flowers in my kit I may make a headband for my granddaughter, or maybe a crown for me!

First off I thought those chubby little bodies looked just like a bead (or a button?) that I have (somewhere, lol) so I hunted & gathered.

The cute altered wings came in an ArtChix Studio order years ago. There's the wooden button, and I will use the skinny gold washi tape for the stripes, wire for the antennas & perhaps to attach some parts.

I painted the button with black gesso.

And added this sweet little heart bead for a stinger!

The tricky bit was getting the antennas attached.

Look at those baby blue eyes!

Although there were none of these in the inspiration kit, I wanted to upgrade my navy chipboard alphas & so I added yellow foam on the back. I even "Frankensteined" the E! Juzt be careful to cut straight down along the sides of the letter & use a craft blade for the fiddly bits.

I had some ideas for counterfeiting the papers but found too many in my stash to need them.

I hope you enjoy creating an element or two for your own kit. It's half the fun of CKC!
Be sure to keep up with what we have planned for you for the rest of the month.

  • February 6th:  We'll reveal a couple of mini-kits and projects, in case you're a little limited for time this month and would prefer a more petite kit.
  • February 12th and 18th:  We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.
  • February 24th:  I'll be showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught my eye this month
  • February 27th: We'll be offering another installment in our {Killing Kits} series to help you find ways to use up all of your kit.

    020120 CKC February Kit Reveal

Master Forger Julene has chosen a lush romantic inspiration kit for CKC which is based on pieces of the gorgeous Prima Darcelle collection. The Tres Jolie Kit Club reveal link includes a video.

"Fall under the dark, romantic spell of Darcelle by Frank Garcia for Prima. This mesmerizing and delicately elegant collection is filled with indigo blues, boysenberry purples, and medallion golds for creating projects that will leave you speechless. Design a mixed media panel, love-filled card, or gorgeous notebook pages filled with vintage charm and beautiful accents. Discover wild and free sentiments, curious butterflies, whispers of foil, and glittering jewels in the secrets that Darcelle holds"

And who more perfect for our Guest Designer spot than "Queen Kat" Katherine Boddy Blue!

Here's a little bio offered by Kat on her last stint as Guest Designer:
Hello everyone! I'm Katherine Blue but everyone in crafty circles either call me Kat or Kate. I  live in a small town in Maryland being a wondermom to my son and daughter and in 2019, for the first time ever, a dog!

I began doing photography and scrapbooking about 11 years ago as a way to relieve my high stress levels when my son was extremely ill. I'll admit I was never ever crafty or artsy when I was younger because I never believed I'd be good at it and it was a talent that no one ever asked me about. So after getting addicted to scrapbooking, I now also dabble in art journaling, watercolors and decorative painted canvases. I've been a HUGE fan of the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog for YEARS (for the inspiration AND the stash busting) and I'm delighted and honored to be this month's Guest Designer!

I DO know that she also just completed a charity Polar Plunge!
Find her on Pinterest as Queenkat, Instagram as KraftyQueenkat, or http://kateblue.blogspot.com

I must sheepishly say that I went a little berserk with my kit. I challenged myself to find navy blue and that elusive boysenberry colour in my stash & was stunned to see the pile of paper that I had pulled. Here's my first (yes - gulp - I said first!) batch:

    Whew!

Here is "The Bees Knees" kit.
I suggest poring over these on a big screen, lol.
