040120 April Archi-scraps Challenge

Be inspired by Ancient Egypt: pyramid shapes, hieroglyphics, camels, etc.
I wanted to have a little fun with the April Archi-scraps challenge.
I finally settled on making my own hieroglyphics background paper - easy-peasy!

I used the BoBunny Adventure icons stamp set as a full sheet stamp, temporarily adhered to a sturdy plexiglass case.  I off-stamped the fresh ink & used a second generation stamp for that faded & uneven effect to simulate the worn appearance of real life hieroglyphics.

Love how it came out!

Bonus? A little stash-busting done by using 2013 October Afternoon Apple Cider "Corn Maze" paper as a base, 2012 Glitz Design (remember them?!?) Fabulous paper, 2012 Amy Tangerine Goodness Thickers, and 2017 Simple Stories Cabin Fever sticker sheet. I used an entire swath of word stickers under the photos, plus some more for those cute clusters and the I <3 Camping banner.

Give this challenge a whirl! You don't have to have photos from Egypt to translate the inspiration onto your project. This could even be the time for llamas to show up (just call them camels - I won't tell, lol) Don't forget to link up over at Archi-scraps! We love to give a round of virtual applause.

032620 All About Me album

Stacy Julian CLASS CLOSED
SO EXCITED to be able to take this year-long class with the legendary Stacy Julian! Twenty projects in 2020 - sounds impossible, but not when you're getting great advice that can apply to anything you need/want to accomplish in any genre. Great news for this disorganized procrastinator :D

Although we are all pursuing our own particular projects, this February All About Me mini-book was the only assignment for everyone. It provided a great snapshot into our lives right now. How ironic that only days later life would become so different... but that's another project.

I used a Close to My Heart/Story by Stacy kit that I randomly won from Persnickety Prints, which included the PP t-shirt in my photo at the end of the album.

My introduction page is one of my Artist Trading Cards (ATC).

I heard someone call the 60-80 years, "The Fourth Quarter" & I liked that thought. I added a photo of my aging hand, which is beginning to have spots & knobby knuckles.

Still amazing to me that I can get an answer to just about every question from this gadget! My phone, my camera, my connection to so many that I love to keep up with, my source of crafty inspiration, my encyclopedia & reference library, my answering service, my social center, my diary, etc...

Social Security! Been waiting a long time for my money to be returned to me.

Tongue-in-cheek nod to my global community scrappy affiliations.

My high school sweetheart!

The grands <3

Changing times...

My anchor, my rock, my Saviour.

This was supposed to be a photo shoot with my daughter but kept getting postponed...

A little note to myself.

Now that I've written this post I may go back & add pull out tags with these comments.

Thanks for stopping by!

031820 March CKC Challenge #2

Challenge #2: Outdoor Photos

Master Forger Lori says that March usually means that we are having a few more warm days than the bitterly cold days, and I know I am ready to be outside more after being cooped up in the house all winter.  For this challenge I want you to use photos that are taken outdoors.

It just so happened that the next batch of photos in my queue to scrap were of a day trip to the Fort Gratiot Light in Port Huron, Michigan on a beautifully sunny autumn day.

I saw these adorable banners in the gift shop made of replica nautical alphabet flags used on ships.

I thought it looked familiar & remembered this beloved October Afternoon/Treasure Map "Crow's Nest" paper in my stash. I knew that I would have to use it on a page about this day.

Fussy-cut into individual flags, just look at how perfect it is to spell out the name of the light!

(Sharp-eyed observers may spot two things: the bottom row of flags has some punched circle patches due to my re-design of the banner location halfway through the page construction, plus the pull tab doesn't actually pull anything but added a touch of red where I needed it.)

This was our third lighthouse. We hope to visit many of the coastal Michigan lights over the next few years. I am thinking of using more of these flags for our "Lighthouses" album cover.

Surely you have some outdoor photos to scrap. Pull out whatever remains of your March counterfeit kit & whip up a little something for Challenge #2!

    031220 CKC March Challenge #1

    Master Forger Lori's first challenge:

Pick Three! I want you to pick 3 items from the list below and include them on your layout. You can use more than 3 things from the list and you can use other things, not on the list, but do include 3 items from the list.
    • Stars
    • Enamel dots
    • Chipboard
    • Florals - this can be paper or embellishments
    • Stripes
    • The color Pink
    • Circles
    • Tag(s)
    • Frames(s)

I've got chipboard, stripes, the color pink, a circle, and frames.

Had as much fun making this as I did on this girls' day out.

Look over your kit for the items on the list, and if you can't find what you want? Raid your stash! Love working off of a list.

And don't forget - there's more inspiration coming this month!

    • March 18th: We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.
    • March 24th: I'll be showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught my eye this month

030420 CKC Forgery on the Fourth

I saw so many possibilities in the graphic papers, but after I checked my stash I realized that I had quite a few good substitutions. I settled on three papers to counterfeit - all "b" sides!

CP/Magical Forest "Wildflower", Maggie Holmes/Sunny Days "Carefree" CP/Magical Forest "Always"

Using a homemade hexagon template - 4" point to point.

I stamped 3 stars at a time in loose rows & then filled in with offset rows.
I used 2 different bird stamps randomly on the paper.
On a side note: I pulled photos of all of the papers from the supply list given in the kit description. In writing up my blog post for the kit reveal I realized that the cut-apart paper above doesn't appear in any of the Citrus Twist reveal photos!  Too late - I had already forged the "b" side star paper. (I'm hoping to create some of the cards during the month.)
Then, when I searched my stash for matches to sub in for the painterly blue stripes, I came up with these papers, but I just knew that I had a blue stripe.
I went back for one last look - and discovered the exact paper as in the inspiration kit! Again, after I had crafted my "b" side forgery. I had a bit of a dodgy time this month!

I decided that if I did a forgery of this number paper

that I would only end up fussy-cutting it, and so I made this title instead.

Bows: I imagine there are a lot of these little sweeties counterfeited this month!
    Link HERE
I used this template & sized it to make three 1-1/2" bows. (I'd be happy to email my customized template to you if you'll make a request in the comments.)

I printed onto label paper & stuck each set onto three different fabrics and cut out the pieces.

I assembled the bows with one piece from each fabric, Tacky Glued the center strip & used some unorthodox "tools" to hold them together while they dried.

    Voila!

    L-O-V-E these!!!

Finally I had a go at these:

I gathered a few different sizes of circle punches to create some patterned paper embellishments & heat embossed sentiments.  Backed with adhesive foam they made decent counterfeits!

I hope there is something in this post that gives you the courage to try your hand at crafting your own custom supplies for your kit this month. Don't forget what we have in store for you the rest of this month:
    • March 6th:  We'll reveal a couple of mini-kits and projects, in case you're a little limited for time this month and would prefer a more petite kit.
    • March 12th & 18th:  We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.

March: In like a lion... out like a lamb...
Master Forger Lori is up this month and has chosen a lovely kit, but first let's meet her Guest Designer, Julie Jeavons!

I love my daughter, crafting, photography and visiting new places (with a camera).  She loves school, Brownies, Sarah Jane, Dr Who and Scooby Doo.  We live in Dudley, England, which is known for its Zoo (complete with castle) and the Black Country Museum.  It is also the birthplace of Lenny Henry and Duncan Edwards.  Oh, and home to Grandma and Grandad who give me such wonderful support with childcare while I’m at work.  You might get to meet the rest of the family if you join us and follow along!

    March Inspiration Kit:
Citrus Twist Kits February Scrapbook Add-On
(There is also a Life Crafted "Possibilities" kit full of CKT exclusives for more inspiration.)

I got very busy counterfeiting with this one so be sure to return on the fourth! Here are my papers:

I know, I know - there are far too many! The top two rows are the inspiration kit papers, both "a" and "b" sides. The last are a few extras, ahem...
