070119 Archiscraps July Challenge

Archi-scraps July Challenge
Be inspired by seashells
As I've mentioned before, I am using the delightful prompts at Archi-scraps to move off the page & broaden my memory keeping horizons. This month I moved into jewelry! Not the making of but filling a locket...

Yes, they are tiny real seashells...

I had thought about altering the outside but didn't feel the juice was worth the squeeze.

Can't wait to see what you are inspired to create - be sure to share at Archi-scraps!

061819 CKC June Challenge #2

Use circles - includes circular embellishments.

My inspiration came from this Pinterest layout:

Alas, the elegant simplicity factor ended up completely eluding me...
I did end up with 15 circles, though!

This adorable photo by my daughter inspired me. My son-in-law surprised her with a much desired egg chair for her porch, which was immediately commandeered by the grands!

I had a lot of fun with this one. There were some technical difficulties along the way but a little extra patterned paper border circle (2009 Basic Grey Nook & Pantry/Flour Sack, sigh...) hid the worst of them. As always I am happiest when I'm fussy-cutting & scrapping the little moments. I hope you are inspired!

061219 CKC June Challenge #1

Use scallops.

My inspiration came from this layout by Missy Whidden.
Link to video HERE
I tried the popularly touted schmooshing-with-product-packaging technique.

At this point I was less than thrilled but knew that most of this would be covered up. After punching out three sets of scallops & layering them up, I double-mounted the photo on patterned papers, added my forged rainbow embellishment & sprinkled a few forged stars & eyelets.

My finishing touch was the scalloped tag & forged tassels. My daughter posted the photo the day before my granddaughter's 7th birthday with the sentiment that makes up the title.

Time for you to try your hand at using scallops!

060619 CKC June Mini-Kit

I'm subbing in with a mini-kit this month & I decided to do a page kit for my Mother's Day photos. I got treated to a special evening out with one of my precious daughters plus my granddaughter. I grabbed these items from my original June kit:

When I made up my embellishment forgery cut-out sheet I included the Girls Night Out sentiment with these photos in mind. I tossed in the tassels as they matched perfectly! I made the star card from my version of the Hip Kit May Color Kit:

I built my page on a black cardstock base, using my forged mosaic paper in the corners & the forged grunge stars in the middle.

I used the star card as a base for my title. I fussy-cut the sentiment & cut the printed logo for the event in a circle - I think it looks like the moon in the middle of all those stars! - and tricked out the bottom with the tassels.

A little silver & gold ink dressed up this stamped embellishment forgery.
I'm glad that I got the chance to build a mini-kit this month!

060419 CKC June Forgeries

It is no crime to create your own version of the trendy,
hip products from the inspiration kit using your own stash & ingenuity.
Inspiration kit:

Hip Kit Club May 2019 Main Kit
My "The ULTIMATE counterfeit kit" this month is a complete forgery, and I hope that I can take you through the journey quickly. (I can't take credit for the alphas, lol, although I toyed with the idea of cutting some!)

I was inspired to focus my kit forgery on florals. Most of the counterfeiting seen above involves papers - a small & large floral, digitally produced cut-apart sheet & sentiments, grunge stars, denim gingham, (tassel embellishments,) wavy paper, my version of the rainbow paper & a tiny print in rainbow colors, (embellishment sheet,) plus the mosaic paper. I made most of my papers 8" to 8-1/2" square.

The florals were created with simple stamping & coloring. I tried out a few designs first on the larger pattern, and simply used a single rose stamp for the smaller all over pattern.

I created a grid & collage on Photoshop Elements, adding sentiments on a few. The inspiration paper also had sentiments directly on the photos, but I didn't put any on as I suspected that I would be punching some of them out. I used floral words for my sentiment paper & colored with pencils.

The grunge star began with a few painted strokes in all directions. After drying I punched stars in a variety of sizes. I splattered some pink paint on the background before attaching the stars. Voila!

Theirs: the denim colored gingham is a Hip Kit club exclusive seen behind the peach paper below.

Mine:

I used washi tape to mask off stripes in one direction & then the other. Easy-peasy!
A little tip, though. Make sure the first set of stripes is dry before you tape for the second...

I decided to include eyelets instead of sequins in my kit in the true spirit of CKC stash-busting! They worked perfectly here. I simply fringed the striped paper & folded them in thirds, adding the eyelet.

I made the template on the right & used it to color the pattern stripes, flipping it from back to front for each wavy shape & turning it the opposite from top to bottom for the next wave (seen under the scissors in the photo below.) I then photocopied that for a pattern to cut the solid cardstock pieces. It's a little hard to explain - sorry!

Loved the tiny rainbows but thought this more interesting to use.

I used an old Basic Grey 6x6" pad for some brighter pops of color.

I hope you are inspired to try your hand at your own custom version of elements from the inspiration kit. Forging is another fun way to give some love to your stash by using it up.
