103114 Archi-scraps November Challenge

Another FAB inspiration from Archi-scraps!

And the challenge is to use a song title.
As I have just celebrated my 57th birthday the choice was obvious...

Bonus points for sheet music.
My birthday pie wood veneer piece is covered with a
Happy Birthday sheet music Project Life-type card!

A little bling...

...and a little banner.

Be sure & let me know you stopped by with a comment -
perhaps a Happy Birthday?

100614 CKC October Royal Challenge #1

Our lovely Queen Laura has issued a royal edict:

Now it just so happens that I made some cute little forged ribbon bows for my kit this month!
Why thank you, Queen Laura, for such a timely challenge idea :~)
They didn't make it onto this page but I did use more of the ribbon
on my banner accents & my custom rosette.

Everyone will applaud the clever little rosette,
but it's funny how "inspiration" hits if we only knew the whole story...

When I went to put the fancy stitching on my photo mat the not-so-smart machine stitched pattern #6 when I had chosen #5. I hadn't planned out how to go round the corners but it mostly worked out with a few stitches by hand to mesh things up. But before I was round the whole frame...

Oops! My bobbin ran out - boooo!
I thought, well, I'll just cover that up with... something...

I used a punched circle for a foundation piece to staple the ribbons to. The gold foil circle is from a pack of office supplies! Quite inexpensive compared to scrapbook supplies, as a rule.

Quite happy with how it turned out. Lest you think I am utterly brilliant  here is where I was inspired:

My purpose in making this layout was Mandysea's challenge last month to scrap your new season. Be sure you go have a look at her gorgeous page. She lives down under so she is just entering into Spring.

100414 CKC October Tutorial

Our kit this month:

I really liked the embellished woodgrain paper.
I considered a few different approaches.
Woodgrain 12x12 stencil for the background?
Painted or fussy-cut paper flowers on woodgrain paper?

Once I had pulled my papers...
... I decided I didn't want a colored woodgrain background.
I did, however, want to keep the translucent quality in the original.
A little fishing expedition in my vellum stash revealed enough
colors that could go with my kit to give it a try.

Tim Holtz Alterations Tattered Florals die to the rescue!

I like it! I've also included three bows I made out of burlap
ribbon, raffia, and dyed linen ribbon - easy peasy.

Hope you are inspired to get a little creative & try your hand at counterfeiting!

100114 CKC October Kit Reveal

Long live the Queen!
has been chosen CKC October Queen! This month she has
picked the kit for us to counterfeit, chosen all three of our
challenges & will be our Guest Designer for the month.
In addition, she won a $10 gift certificate to Big Picture Classes.
Congratulations!

Queen Laura chose this pretty kit from Hello Little Magpie.

I started out by analyzing the papers. Embellished woodgrain, plaid,
small floral, small pattern, medium floral, large floral, large polka dot, small
floral plus four coordinating cardstocks. I know I will be changing up the
color scheme but I want to stay true to the variety of patterns in the kit.

This was my start:
I rarely include cardstock but managed to come close with the colors (better in real life :)

Let's go see what's in the Magic Blue Box!

I tossed in a few extra background papers on the left.

The inspiration kit had no alphas & as I like to choose them as I go I left them out as well.
I did include some yellow & brown acrylic alphas (no idea what they could spell but I will
give it a go!) as a nod to the transparent elements in the kit, along with some acrylic leaves.

I have a few forged elements as well that will appear in the tutorial post on the 4th.
The goodie packs are Maggie Holmes as were the stickers in the inspiration kit.
The one piece I did have was the sheet of Authentique mini-words.

Now hop on for more fab kits from the Queen's loyal subjects!
