051216 CKC May Challenge #2

Two Sketch Challenge 

Jemma often uses sketches to get started with a layout.
She has chosen two from Page Maps from the same era as our inspiration kit
for the second CKC challenge this month.

I chose the second sketch.

My bold striped background paper has a quote that I wanted to include and
instead of the strip of patterned paper at the top I used a panoramic photo.

My elements are on a larger scale than the sketch so the tag ended up
in a cluster on the bottom right as a foundation for an additional photo.
The horizontal element at the bottom of the sketch didn't make it at all!

 The title is a bit of a play on words as our retreat is in Gladwin :)

I liked the contrast of the contemporary papers & transparent elements with the Amish images.

050616 CKC May Challenge #1

Mind Your Qs & Ks!

The inspiration this month at CKCis the May/June 2014 collection of Quirky Kits 

and the first challenge celebrates those neglected letters. 

Please feature a Q and/or a K on your project e.g. use a monogram, 

include the letter(s) in your BIG title - but something other than journalling

 - those letter(s) must be loud and proud!

When I set out to work on this, I had just been on a wonderful outing with the grands.
Of course, this self-respecting grammarazzi had a stick full of photos in the big camera.

Unfortunately PSE was not cooperating & the print quality was mediocre,
but they were such a small scale & it would have been an immense amount
of work to recreate it so I simply called it good, done, and moved on.
 I have a mini planned for this day using the high quality booklet we were given.

Oh - and there's my BIG K! So happy to get that butterfly in this month as the
inspiration kit had some really nice transparent ones that I didn't counterfeit.

I mentioned in my kit reveal this month that I had a few more things that weren't shown.
Mostly alphas (including the gold ones which were in the original kit), a few b/w botanical
cards, a few ribbons,  an assortment of diecuts, and those packs of graphics from IKEA.

I fussy cut the deer image to use as an embellishment.
Loved the colors with that geometric patterned paper!

It was definitely a GRAND day.

050416 CKC May Forgeries

At Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog we are BIG on being fake!

Not what you would normally consider a good thing, is it?

We are a Design Team full of mad counterfeiting skills & proud of it.

This month's inspiration kits are from Quirky Kits May/June 2014.

Main Kit LINK

I had three forgeries this month and one was an oldie but a goodie.

That gold glitter washi tape was made for another kit long ago.
Unfortunately the tut post has eluded me but it's a simple counterfeit.

Simply cut a length of double-sided tape & cover one side with glitter!
I made sure to firmly press the glitter into the adhesive & it really held up well.

The wood veneers were a fun (and popular!) forgery this month.
I chose triangle shapes to coordinate with the beautiful paper you see above,
and chose colors that would go with my kit. I drew the black lines with a Pitt pen
so that I wouldn't have any bleeding when adding the wet paint.

I love the graphic quality of these embellishments & will be
doing this often with my astonishing collection of wood veneers.
Perhaps that will help me use them up one day, lol!

There was a single rose in the original kit that was glittered on the edges.
I wanted something smaller & a little more graphic, so I chose to alter these Art-C "roses"
crafted from a musical note paper & used some chunky glitter at the edges.

Nothing particularly earth-shakingly creative but a counterfeit doesn't have to 

take the work of a masterpiece! You'll see some other simple but delightful 

ideas for reproducing some of the elements in this month's inspiration kit

050216 WM#210 Red, white & blue

Falling a little behind in my WM 200s but am counting on Layout A Day to get caught up!

Last week's prompt was prompted (lol) by the Queen of England's 90th birthday.

In order to widen the appeal Lisa expanded the spectrum to be inspired by red, white & blue.

These beautiful decorations for her HMS birthday fete were the visual inspiration 

as well as this gorgeous inspiration board.

I love that lighter blue color in this - like faded denim.

So here's mine - they just got their first pets :D

 The photo lifts up by that little flag

to reveal more of the story.

The cluster was just a quickie. I wanted a little more white but nothing blingy 

so I simply punched white cardstock with a hole punch. I will do this more often, I think!

I'm glad that I "dressed up" the inside with some washi & stickers.

The LOAD prompt was "You may not like it, but..."

My son-in-law may be allergic to guinea pigs, so there's the tie in!

The black ribbon was from one of my Felicity Jane kits - they always arrive wrapped up in polka dot tissue & tied with a ribbon. The alphas are "Bits" by American Crafts, Studio Calico altered wood veneers inspired by the Felicity Jane paper. That lovely handcrafted crochet-edge circle element was part of a counterfeited prize from our own Susan Brochu's blog, Little Things, Big Days!

The gold Dritz thread was straight from my sewing supplies. The flair are from assorted sources & include four sequined "polka Dots!) from Webster's Pages. The gold "ribbon" is actually a washi tape forgery from a previous month which I will link to in my May Forgeries on the Fourth post.  The altered Art-C paper roses are another counterfeit from this month's inspiration.

Then I have this nod to the embellishment kit:

I know I have some travel & birthdays to scrap so I've included an encore appearance of the Pink Paislee Atlas ephemera pack & A/C's "Grow" Thickers puffy stickers that are bright & fun. A few chalkboard elements, assorted enamel dots & shapes, a triangle themed stamp sets from Citrus Twist  (again courtesy of Susan's prize) and a pack of gold rub-ons from My Mind's Eye.

A gorgeous piece of wire ribbon & a pot of sequins round out the mix!
I'm all "a-GLOW" about using this kit!
