121319 Archi-scraps December Challenge

December  Archiscraps - use a zipper
I'm closing out the year with another off the page memory project (apologies for the late post.)

Years ago I purchased a package of Melissa Frances pleated zipper - it was probably at a clearance price or part of a class because it is totally not the kind of thing I use! I thought of it immediately for this challenge but had a terrible time finding it in my stash (of course - insert eye roll here!)

I chose this heritage photo of my Bamma Helen to document for this challenge.

She was a consummate seamstress and a very special lady in my life growing up. I remember sitting at her feet while we rifled through "the rag bag", a cardboard box full of fabric scraps. I still have many of the beautifully crafted clothes she made for my dolls (often created with a matching outfit made for me!)

I began by staining the small shadowbox frame a dark brown shade. I covered the background with 7Gypsies Trousseau paper, a tattered bit of vintage lace, and a tiny tail of Tim Holtz Ruler Ribbon. The photo is accompanied by Bamma's thimble, some stick pins & her paste brooch.

I adorned the outside of the frame with a brown velvet ribbon threaded onto 2017 Finnabair for Prima Mechanicals 10 rusty metal embellishments & festooned with 2009 Tim Holtz Ideology Type Charms spelling out her name.

And finally the "roses" crafted from the pleated zipper!

This will make a lovely addition to my family heritage gallery wall.

121119 Completed Christmas ABC Book

GOALS

I've made a decision to work on unfinished projects when I run across them in the studio. This one may well be the oldest I've got - I believe I started it 15 years ago! Inspired by my kindred spirit's version, I began combing through our Christmas cards & then matching them with papers. I still love those large BasicGrey alphas - I've kept a complete set of the chipboard letters to trace.

It's such a good feeling to have finally accomplished this.
I hope you are inspired to tie up one of your own crafty loose ends.

Merry Christmas!

111319 December Daily Preparation

After listening today to The Scrap Gals "December Daily" podcast,
I spent a little time on DD2019 Phase II: choose papers.

Here's a reminder of my inspiration - the Amazon Wish Book!

I'm looking for orangey red, peachy pink, teal (light & dark), light blue and navy.

It was easy-peasy, as my papers are sorted by color.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a few multi-coloured papers that fit my scheme.

Of course, once in the zone, I couldn't resist starting to sift through my embellishments.

I also made some notes about certain dates not to forget - a birthday, travel, etc.
And just in case you noticed that cute little box I'm using to collect my bits & bobs.

Makes me smile!

111219 CKC November Challenge #1

It's time for Challenge #1 today and it's all about the waiting
The excitement
The "how many sleeps until....".
The build up to the main event!

"For many, November is a time of anticipation - before the fun of Christmas begins, looking forward to - or maybe dreading - the weather turning colder and winter showing its face,  or the year coming to an end. Or, like me, it might be a time full of birthdays, wedding anniversaries and family visits. Whatever it is you're expecting, waiting for or feeling excited about, be inspired by the anticipation of something today!" - Lisa

My kindred spirit hasn't lived in my state in forever, at times not even living in the same country! Our connection has stayed close & we have even managed to meet up in real life on rare occasions. This summer her family moved back (YAY!!!) but two hours away. Finally we managed it last week in honor of my birthday, and spent a few hours having brunch & a little retail therapy at Tuesday Morning - an epic haul! The obvious choice for this challenge.

One of the goodies she brought me got tossed into my kit along with some Felicity Jane puffy stickers since both fit my color scheme.

A few of the pieces were perfect for my layout!

Come back again soon for more fun and inspiration!
  • November 18th:  We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.
  • November 24th:  I'll be showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught my eye this month
  • November 30th: We'll be offering another installment in our {Killing Kits} series to help you find ways to use up all of your kit

We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us.
You can use our Monthly Link-up page, post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcnovember2019).
