060119 Archiscraps June Challenge

Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland
Use a book page or a library pocket.

I am challenging myself to try mixed media instead of my usual scrapbooking to achieve the Archi-scraps challenges this year. This month I started out with one of these that I've had for-ev-er:

Link HERE
I have been tossing photos & addresses into it of the places I have lived, with the vague notion of documenting them in some creative way. The library card in our challenge unlocked the door!

My original elaborate plan was to cover the box like a true book, with stabilized fabric wrapped around to the back side of the covers. I planned raised elements on the spine and the cover. I got so overwhelmed that I almost talked myself out of the whole thing!

Took a deep, cleansing breath & set my brain to SIMPLIFY.

I used this gold texture paste & a scruffy old paintbrush to mimic gold-edged pages. Easy-peasy!
Link HERE

The library card has my name as the author & the title of the "book" is Where I Have Lived.
The entries have the stamped year & a handwritten address for each place. I lined the box with a Maggie Holmes paper to mimic marbleized book end papers.

I added some real keys & a rusty metal house embellishment to my "keyring" of house tags. There will be 18 when I finish - I ran out of tags!

I am learning to use my initial elaborate ideas as inspiration for a manageable strategy to achieve them! This project was a total success in that regard. Yay, me! lol Let me know what you think.

Hope you share your creation with us over at the Archi-scraps Linky.

Thanks for stopping by!

053019 Throwback Thursday Layout

This is a Public Service Announcement for
reining in our runaway digital photo libraries.
 Just say, WHOA!

I'm not even sure where/how I unearthed these photos last night
but I couldn't wait to scrap them today!

My son-in-law's 2015 birthday dinner.
A whole bunch of mediocre quality photos of a hilarious evening.
(I adore candid photos! And barbecue. I love barbecue...)

SO!
I went in search of pink paper & found this May 2018 CKC forged paper.

Link HERE
This was the inspiration kit paper.

Shimelle Box of Crayons On a Roll
Fun & happy background.
A little machine stitching.
Perfect pocket cards.
Little birthday banner.
Cute little piggie embelli.
Some stamping to enhance a few of those circles.

Nothing exceptional about this, except the memory of a wonderful evening PRESERVED.

051819 - CKC May Challenge #2

Challenge # 2:
Dreams are the seeds of change.
Nothing ever grows without a seed,
and nothing ever changes without a dream. - Debby Boone

I hope you can find inspiration from this quote or the image provided.

My youngest baby girl (now almost 29) had the sweetest little halo of peach fuzz for hair as a baby, earning her the nicknames Dandelion Head & Fuzz Head. Time to document that precious bit of her history!

Oh my goodness. She is 3 months old. (heart eyes)

I built my background with another scrappy trend, an hourglass shape. I had a really ancient sheet of stickers, saved for this photo, that I was miraculously able to find in my recently renovated studio. Bad blogger - I neglected to take a photo before I used them, but this is what is left & the company is still in business!

Did you notice the adorable cloud bunny stickers? Too cute! And those dandelions are perfection.

See? She earned that nickname honestly! :-)

I hope you'll join in with this challenge & be sure to post for us to see.

051219 CKC May Challenge #1

Here I am with a prime opportunity to work on using up my May CKC "Adventure" kit:

Challenge #1:
One of this month's kit club's perks is a monthly sketch inspiration. Let's do it!

My Creative Scrapbook March 2019 sketch
Only I did mine like this:

Sort of!

I left the (now) vertical element out & expanded that cluster to be diagonal across the page. I also used a trendy scallop treatment in a few places, mimicking the signature branding strip I left on at the bottom of the grey dot Felicity Jane/London background paper.

I love how much movement the tiny peeps of stripe adds!
The Amy Tangerine elements have a holographic effect adding some shimmer & shine.
The peacock & llama are not just gratuitous accents but actual residents of the zoo.

I backed the acetate peacock with some vellum to help it not disappear on the patterned paper.

Penguins are his favorite <3

Can't wait to see what you do with the My Creative Scrapbook kit sketch.

050419 iNSD CKC/BYSS Collaboration

Say what?!?

A beautiful complement to what we do at Counterfeit Kit Challenge, Bash Your Scrapbook Stash Facebook group is all about challenges that keep your stash moving along & off the shelves (or bins, boxes & bags...) to live happily ever after in the sunlight on your pages & projects.

We are collaborating today to make iNSD a lot more fun! I had the privilege to do a Facebook Live over there to introduce ourselves & explain how all things CKC work! Our ovn Tina Campbell chose this kit to counterfeit as part of the festivities:

June 2018 Studio Calico "Explorer" kit

Here's my counterfeit "Shine" kit:

Here's Susan's sketch plus my version:

I knew that I wanted to scrap my April #30daysofselfies & that those rows of circles could be replaced with filmstrip-style photos!

I used my counterfeit alphas, made from naked chipboard inked with the arrow patterns, for my title.

(I think this was my favorite <3)
In all of the excitement of presenting the kit & discussing some of the approaches to curating a CKC-inspired kit, I neglected to address an entire section of my presentation, lol! These represent other options for the papers in the inspiration kit:

and how some of them might play nice in a kit together:

Just a little bonus to whet your appetite.
I hope this special day was a scrappy success!

050119 CKC May Kit Reveal

A fun inspiration this month, but first things first!
Meet Leanne Wagner, our Guest Designer this month.

Here's a bit of her story - the rest is on the CKC blog kit reveal post:

I’m Leanne from Nannup, Western Australia. Where’s that you might ask? Well, just down the road from the famous Magaret River, wine country. Our town boasts the biggest, wooden, man made clock in the World!

My husband would tell you that I am obsessed with scrapbooking and documenting life passing by. I love to photograph and capture special moments in time and save these memories to reflect on in the future. Scrapbooking, for me, is really my go to meditation, but opens a World of communication and friendships.

I only came across the Counterfeit Kit Challenge about a year ago and quickly became hooked! Now, one of my joys in life is when the first of the month rolls around and the challenge begins…bring it on, I say!

So without further ado...our May inspiration kit:
