030122 Archi-scraps March Challenge

Scallops & texture

What a colourful feast for the eyes! This photo makes me want to turn around & see the main rooms. Our March Archi-scraps challenge proved, well - challenging.

I finally decided to scrap some beautiful photos from my granddaughter's 5th birthday. I'd already included some of them in a traveler's notebook from our 2016 visit but wanted a dedicated page in her scrapbooks.

The scallop part of the challenge prompted me to use a new scallop shell die + a scalloped lacy border punch to represent waves. I used a new Finnabair stencil with Vicki Boutin iridescent glaze (I still need practice at this!) to begin to add texture on a kraft background. I thought it looked like a breezy wind.

Blue glitter tape represents the sparkle of the water. I used a number of Tim Holtz vintage washi tapes to cover the "beach" portion of the kraft & give it a more textural feel.

I used Shimmerz powders to add texture & sparkle to the stamped shells.

The beloved birthday girl, indeed! My daughter took the photos with her "big camera" & did an amazing job. All of the girls in our family are shutterbugs, including this next generation. Makes my heart so happy.

How will you approach this challenging challenge? I can't wait to see. Be sure to add your version to the Archiscraps Community Group on Facebook

021822 CKC February Challenge #2 - Repeat Shapes

Master Forger of Ceremonies Misty's CKC February Challenge #2

With hearts being an iconic shape for the month of February, we are going to be inspired by shapes. Use repeating shapes as a design element for your layouts: hearts, circles, squares, hexagons, triangles... any repeated shape counts!

I have kept my hexagon punch set out on my desk for the past 3 kits & was totally ready for this prompt! I chose my papers and the design just fell into place. A photo from a BFF date just the day before turned out to be perfect for this layout!

I downloaded the logo for my fussy-cut title.

The vellum library pocket & card were from my November Mum's the Word kit. The butterfly from a recent embellishment pack purchase was perfect for a little privacy on the pocket.

I used the back of the card for some quick journaling.

Including the sequins I managed 45 hexagons on this project! I'm inspired to REPEAT this challenge with other shapes. I hope you are, too!

Here is what we have coming next this month.

  • 24th February: Followers Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  • 28th February: Killing Kits - an idea or two focusing up the bits and pieces left in your own kit.

You know that we always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can post them in our Facebook Community or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcfebruary2022).

021222 CKC February Challenge #1 - Love Stories

Master Forger of Ceremonies Misty couldn't resist giving us this prompt for our first CKC February ChallengeTell a story of love—romantic or not ! Do you have a love language that guides how you show love? Do you have a love for a favorite food or place? I'd LOVE to see all your love pages!

My starting point was this Becky Fleck Sketch #262 from the A Cherry on Top weekly sketch inspiration.

The second was this 2021 MME Gingham Foundry/Blue Skies b-side paper with the lyrics to the song, It's a Wonderful World.

I decided to use the fussy-cut lyric strips in place of the patterned paper in the sketch behind the title & photos. This proved quite a bit larger than the sketch - as usual, I have already gone rogue!

I chose the sweet floral 2014 Gossamer Blue On My Desk/Daydreamer paper for the background. I have hoarded this paper forever & am pleased at being able to use it on this romantic layout. I cut out a skinny frame from the Echo Park Just Be You/Life is a Ride b-side hearts (instead of mounting the background & gutting it.)

I used an image of the earth as the large circle element in the title block, embellished with a heart. Instead of a paper clip on the photo I  added a stacked PinkFresh sticker & more hearts.

A swath of heart washi spans the page to create a horizontal element & marries up with the end of the title sentiment & the stamped & decorated tag.

I included the QR code link to Louis Armstrong's iconic rendition of this song.

What will get YOU inspired for tackling this prompt?

Here is what the remained of the month looks like.

  • 18th February: Challenge #2 to inspire you to get more layouts done.

020122 CKC February Kit Reveal & Blog Hop

Master Forger of Ceremonies Misty says,  This is my first month hosting a kit here at CKC. I’m excited to bring you the Denim & Blush Modern Memory Keeping Kit by Cocoa Daisy from February 2021. This kit is just a little different as it focuses on plenty of journaling cards and embellishments. I love the kit for it’s combination of rich and airy colors, its everyday life usefulness and the slightest nod to the Valentine’s holiday. I hope you will find it as inspiring as I do.

Let's meet our February Guest Designer! Give a warm welcome to Getl Dixon. Getl has been active over on the Facebook community and was excited to be invited to be our guest.

When asked to introduce herself she said, I am a small business owner who loves to help people. I have been creating in some form my whole life. I started sitting at the feet of my mom while she sewed and strung odd buttons on a string. Today I love to quilt, sew, scrapbook and embroider. In my offtime I enjoy God's green earth in all its seasons. This is a picture taken this summer of me enjoying the rain. I was trying to convince my son to come out and play in the rain with me.

Now let's start by taking a look at the papers:

 Mine:

2017 Jen Hadfield Heart of Home/Gatherings; 2015 BasicGrey South Pacific/Polynesia; 2014 Gossamer Blue On My Desk/Daydreamer; 2021 My Mind's Eye Gingham Foundry/Blue Skies; 2016 Echo Park Just Be You/Life Is A Ride; 2021 My Mind's Eye Gingham Foundry/Cornflower; dark background floral unknown; 2019 Studio Light Snowy Afternoon; 2021 My Mind's Eye Gingham Foundry/Lazy Day; peach background geometric unknown; 2011 Studio Calico Abroad/First Class; Kaisercraft Havana Nights/Mosaic Tile.

Full Wonderful kit:

I've curated a stamp set, chosen a few washi, tossed in a pack of 2014 Project Life Inspire chipboard & acetate embellishments, Felicity Jane puffy shapes, 2018 Amy Tangerine enamel shapes, and an assortment of PinkFresh stickers. I feel like it's a little lean but I haven't got a vision yet for my pages. Looking forward to being inspired by the rest of the Design Team & our wonderfully creative community! Let's all take a look at the rest of the hop:
