Well, it's been quite a journey! I'm hoping to keep up daily scrapping + getting some albums done. They will be my traveling companions, I think, when we take a car trip. I'll keep working out of my notebook, too, plus looking for unscrapped photos in my digital archives...

022719 LOAD219 Day 27 Guest Spot!

Day 27: Toto

Story: Dorothy's dog Toto was a sneaky escape artist, but he was doing it all for the sake of loyalty. Scrap a story about loyalty in your life.

Technique: Which scrapbook product is your trusty best friend? Be sure to put it to use on your layout today.

Today's prompt about dogs & loyalty was a poignant reminder of the recent loss of our sweet dog Lila. But there's a twist. This last year of her life was spent with us showing our loyalty to her. A special diet meant home cooked meals. As she gradually went blind we had a lot to do to keep her safe & meet her extra needs. It even changed her potty schedule which meant middle of the night walks. I couldn't resist making my title a little play on the line at the end of The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy finds out that the ruby slippers will take her home, and asks, Toto too? and Glinda says, Toto too.

I used my favorite technique - fussy-cutting - and sparkly ruby red alphas for my title.

I thought it would be fun to have a screenshot documented of my Facebook home screen.

LOAD16  Crystal ball - scrap a story you witnessed but were not a part of.

 Uh-oh... I read this wrong! I missed the witnessed part - oh well - it's still a page. I am going to get the story from my in-laws when we next see them. They told us all about this car when we were looking at the photos but I can't remember the details, and thought it would be fun to do a He Said/She Said..  Do you like my crystal ball?

 

WM#128 + LOAD17 Incorporate more on your page using pull-out elements + poppies:

This prompt reminded me of the remembrance poppies. This is a wonderful WWII keepsake made because my father was in the Army serving & was the only living son in the household. The star in the top left corner tells us this & that he was an American (r/w/b colours.) The right top corner are the colours of the German flag, bottom left France's flag, and bottom right the Red Cross symbol.
I've included a little booklet print out of a practice that actually started in WWI of civilians knitting for the troops. They made socks & mufflers & headgear but at home even schoolchildren knit the squares you see here & afghans like this one were made & gifted.
The English motto, "Knit Your Bit" was adopted here in the U.S. I know this was precious to my grandmother as her oldest son had died of polio. It was quite an act of patriotism for many families to send an only son to fight in the war. I've included this on the back of my layout. I used my February CKC kit.

LOAD19 Make a statement on your page & use clouds.

I made the background white paper with the sentiment as a forgery for my January Counterfeit Kit & was glad to use it. I stitched the one balloon to bring attention to the little rider who is looking down (scared?) or is she praying?

WM#319 + LOAD20 Then & Now + off-prompt (use a photo of yourself)

I stumbled upon the older photos the other day - not sure why they aren't in the trip album? - and thought about the fact that Greg is 62 & doing the stair stepper & how perfect that photo would be with the others to tell this story.  Then the WM#319 prompt yesterday! Meant to be documented today.

The skinny borders are quotes from Trip Advisor that backup the truth of the story while the larger one at the bottom sums up our experience there quite nicely.

LOAD 21 Use small & large embellishments for contrast.

This photo is close to 5 years old but one I've wanted to scrap for-ev-er. It is proof that you can make boy pages with Maggie Holmes paper. Most of the stickers are Sticko brand, which wouldn't come off the backing so every one of those teeny tiny pieces was fussy-cut! I got a cramp in my hand... The tire tracks are made with a model motorcycle I keep in my studio for just such an occasion.

Only one more week... and then Calvinball!

LOAD8. I couldn't resist  using these munchkin-like photos & the striped alphas remind me of Munchkin socks! I used up almost 2 entire packs of 2010 EK Success stickers. Have to laugh at the "trendiness" of puffy stickers in the scrapbooking world.

What could possibly be more good & pink & sparkly than our little princess?

Whimsical Musings WM#114 be inspired by Christmastime in the city (think window displays) + LOAD10 an adventure (it's ALWAYS an adventure with the grands!) and/or use yellow & brick

I got the brick background paper - 2012 Crate Paper - from my February CKC kit, along with the window frame, cut from October Afternoon's 2013 Public Library/Card Catalog paper.
Then all the other yummy October Afternoon Christmas papers from 2013's Silent Night & 2014's Under the Tree yielded the fussy-cut floral, mice & the swoop of "snow" at the bottom of the window. I couldn't resist The Night Before Christmas quote with those mice, and my grandson looking "out of the window" with that startled expression!

WM#314 be inspired by a winter tone Design Seed + LOAD11 intelligence/cleverness w/rustic elements.

Rustic: background paper is dry embossed with a woodgrain pattern, rusty house embellishment, & wooden alphas. The story is about all of the creature comforts my hubby has put into our rustic retreat.

LOAD12 something you love.

Journaling reads: From someone who grew up with three communication options - a personal visit, a long distance phone call, or snail mail - staying close to special people instantaneously & cheaply is such a blessing! From mid-Michigan to suburban Atlanta, northern Missouri, or even just within an hour drive, virtually "reaching out & touching someone" couldn't be easier!

WM#280 inspired by priorities + LOAD13 Lions & tigers & bears - oh my! as title inspiration.

I decided to go digi on this one & am pretty happy with it!

LOAD14 What would you do "if you only had the nerve" or do something bold on your page.

Bold title. This was a fun story to capture!

021219 CKC February Challenge #1

February CKC Challenge #1

Master Forger Julene is the "Master-mind" of February's inspiration & challenges. She thought the idea of using lots of embellishments was good after seeing the page above.

I did this page specifically for the challenge:

141 new American Greetings flat stickers!

I knew that I would make a heart shape with a blank strip in the center.
I  l-o-v-e how this turned out!

I ran across the loved acrylic piece & took awhile to decide what to do with it.
The tiny fussy-cut print of Bampa & the grands all tucked in turned out delightfully cute on here!
A few other Felicity Jane acrylic stars & the white heart filled in nicely.
The stamped border finished off the page.

The second layout was done from my kit for LOAD219 Day 8.

Whimsical Musings WM# 301 use product you just had to have + LOAD1 use a rainbow of colours.

I never buy an entire collection but this Pink Fresh Studio Indigo Hills 2 collection had me at hello! This 2012 feet photo was taken at an Artists Trading Cards group meeting at Capture-A-Memory (now defunct lss). We still exchange projects although we find it hard to get together. We have 5 of the 6 pairs of feet identified, lol.

My SIL is a twin & my daughter threw them a surprise party for their 30th birthday last fall. I had bought a couple of papers from the Echo Park Let's Party collection. I fussy-cut the balloon animals & banner/speech bubbles papers and had a great time layering everything on top of the Celebrate b-side paper strip anchoring everything down the middle.

Whimsical Musings WM#249 a prescribed color scheme + LOAD3 use something soft on your page.

I ran across a piece of "chicken scratch" needlework that my Aunie had made & knew I could make a great page with some product I have related to chickens. Could I find the piece? Nope. The products are set aside for the day it reappears. (Big bummer)
So Plan B was to use this piece of a souvenir scarf from a British Isles trip Aunie gave us for Greg's graduation gift! We had a fantastic time with her. I had a little trouble with my printer but I just pressed on & used a less than perfect photo. I had the 2001(!)  Anna Griffin paper set aside for the WM prompt and it was perfect for this layout. I will add a small photo of the chalice to the left of our photo when I figure out where it is, lol!

True to my scrap motto, I've let the patterned paper do the work. The dreamy evocative background is another stash buster - Tim Holtz, I thnk. Simple but powerful.

Whimsical Musings WM#286 be inspired by a country walk + LOAD6 Not in Kansas anymore!

This was a lot more of a walk than expected, but absolutely stunning sights made all the effort worthwhile. I rarely do 2-page or multiple photo (11!) spreads. I need a good looking album for our 2015 Alaska trip, which will include 4x6" pocket pages so we don't miss a thing.

LOAD7 scrap about a favorite accessory

 I doubt that I would have thought to add this page to our 6x8" 2017 Fairbanks, Alaska aurora borealis/anniversary trip album, even though it's a real treasure.

I am really enjoying the LOAD journey this month! Permission to create is a real gift.
