011823 CKC January Challenge #2 - Make It New Again!

Master Forger of Ceremonies Lisa says:

In our first challenge of the year, I went back to a design style that I used a lot when I first started scrapping - double page spreads - and encouraged you to give it a go.

On the same theme, this time around I'd like you to think back to when you first started scrapbooking (or at least, look back to sometime in the past) and find a technique that you used a lot which has got forgotten along the way as you have changed and developed your scrapbook style.

So, bring that technique back into style and find a way to use it on a page today that is right up to date!

I took a look back over 20 years ago (!) to refresh my memory, to LayOutADay "LOAD" October 2010. It was my first scrapbooking challenge and I signed up at 11:30 pm the night before it started. I seem to have defaulted often to an "L" shaped arrangement on my pages. Here's a good sampling...

I'm using this general arrangement with my "Celebrating Us" page kit.

(I just realized - I forgot to use that chippy rose!)

Day 3 of the LOAD challenge was to pick a photo that tells a story without words = no journaling but a title is okay. I chose a recent photo of us. We just celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary!

I love how this turned out! I pulled in a Vicki Boutin cheater paper for my background. Apparently I was much more of a minimalist scrapper back in the day! Don't you love to see how scrapping has changed over the years? What a blessing to have all of the things available today.

Be sure that you share your creation with us. If the idea of making a layout every day of the month for the LOAD challenge intrigues you, a new one is starting in February! Here's the LINK.

Remaining inspiration to keep you inspired in January:

  • 24th January: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  • 31st January: Killing Kits - an idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box

You KNOW that we always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can post them in our Facebook Communityor share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcjanuary2023).

051220 LOAD520 Abbey Load - Week #1 Recap

First week of LOAD520 - I'm not working on schedule but I am using the prompts.
I am doing these pages for my Covid-19 book, using my CKC iNSD kit!

1 - Love Me Do + 4 things: 2 papers, 1 frame, 1 alpha
2 - Beatlemania + #subtitle

3 - I Want to Hold Your Hand + blue/album cover (title)
4 - An original vs reproduction/copy
5 -Birthday + birthday products

6 - Here Comes the Sun (better times) + yellow
7 - Please Please Me + homophone

I've been surprised & delighted that I'm able to stay on point with my Covid-19 project & still stay within the prompts. Working in the smaller size makes LOAD very achievable.

The LayOut A Day "LOAD" challenge at Scraphappy.org is an outstanding boon to your scrappy mojo! Head over there & take a look at all the goodness membership affords.

021417 LOAD217 Greek Mythology DAY 14: Hephaestus

Alice's prompt for today was based on the fact that Hephaestus was
the only god renowned for his work. Her take was to use these questions:

What is my work? How do I spend my days? What is my labour of love?

I’m officially retired and every day is different (my DH is retired, too)
so the default is my labour of love.

Every Sunday we transport a busload to church for Sunday School & the main service.
We go out ahead of time to check in with the riders & their families, remind them of contests,
take prayer requests, & catch up on what’s been happening this week.
All this in the hopes that they will come to know the Saviour, Jesus Christ!

" And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."
Mark 16:15

050216 WM#210 Red, white & blue

Falling a little behind in my WM 200s but am counting on Layout A Day to get caught up!

Last week's prompt was prompted (lol) by the Queen of England's 90th birthday.
In order to widen the appeal Lisa expanded the spectrum to be inspired by red, white & blue.
These beautiful decorations for her HMS birthday fete were the visual inspiration

as well as this gorgeous inspiration board.
I love that lighter blue color in this - like faded denim.

So here's mine - they just got their first pets :D

The photo lifts up by that little flag

to reveal more of the story.

The cluster was just a quickie. I wanted a little more white but nothing blingy
so I simply punched white cardstock with a hole punch. I will do this more often, I think!
I'm glad that I "dressed up" the inside with some washi & stickers.

The LOAD prompt was "You may not like it, but..."
My son-in-law may be allergic to guinea pigs, so there's the tie in!

Don't forget that when you need a little creative inspiration,
Whimsical Musings has links for all 210 prompts to date!
Happy scrapping!

021516 Second Week of February LOAD

Week Two - so far, so good.
I missed uploading due to internet issues but
I'm actually happier with daytime photos of the layouts.
Still 14/14!

Day Eight: Color/Based on the flag of Canada (red/white + maple leaf)
Perfect for more Alaska trip photos as we went to Dawson City.
I remembered that I had photos with the Canadian flag.
I saw that journaling down the side on the Prima blog, I believe.

Day Nine: Transportation/Train
More Alaska! Chuck wagon breakfast excursion at Denali.
I could not find my travel journal for some of the
journaling details but have left room...
There was another couple from our tour that we met this morning
& became fast friends with them - Mike & Marge.

Day Ten:  Culture/Recreation
Thought this would be fun to document some time with our granddaughter in Georgia.
She loves her Bampa! They had a little  teasing game with those pompoms.
He would ask for a grape & she would give him yellow (lemon). The giggles were thick!
And that breakfast picture was the worst quality but my total FAVE.
The vintage girl with the "Fun" banner was from a Smashbook page.
Lynnette gave me some design advice for the little striped banner.
Could not believe that I found the little Prima clock button - Bampa TIME!

Day Eleven: Language (he spoke to her heart)
Another one of my favorite photos of Chloe.
I love the dreamy quality of this page, including the star vellum strip.

Day Twelve: Landmark
Had to add that touch of gold in the title!
It took awhile to get the photos arranged & I added a simple skinny washi border top & bottom.
I stamped a contour map stamp from an Inkadinkadoo set onto the large wood veneer numbers
for a little texture, plus the black splats of Black Velvet Colourshine.

Day Thirteen: Geography
A very happy day spent with the lovely & generous teacher, Finnabair.
Took myself out for the day & got to play!
The left side of the spread was inspired by THIS from Alison Day with three large photos.

Day Fourteen: Food
Alaska, again.
That antler embelli is from a Felicity Jane kit & couldn't have been more perfect.
Although it's difficult to see I punched a semi-circle in the "reindeer sausage" raised
portion of the title so that the ampersand flush with the background could be seen.
I included a portion of the Anchorage city map to show the hotel, tram stop & visitors center.

I'm late posting this but mostly this is for me to enjoy down the road!
Hope it was fun for you, too :-)

Thanks for stopping by!

012715 LOAD215 Blog Hop

I signed up for October 2010 LOAD, my first of thirteen, at 11pm the night before!
It's probably a good thing that I didn't have any idea what to expect, but it also meant
I had no time to prepare.  Let me give you a little help :~)

Physically
You really won't want trouble at 11:45 pm when you are
getting your page done just under the deadline, so...
Check adhesive, printer ink & paper supplies.
Install new cutter blades - you will probably wear them out!

Let your family & friends know you may be A.W.O.L.
this month and ask for their help & cooperation :~)

Mentally
Commit to daily scrapping for the month.
Commit to at least attempting the prompts.

There are no LOAD police, and ANY pages done beats none, but
really working to make it happen every day will change your creative life.

Attempting each of the prompts will help broaden your approach
to how you scrap & plug you into some new creativity.

Ultimately
you are in for the ride of your life!
You will meet a lot of new friends & be inspired by their pages.
You will tell stories that were forgotten.
You will have given yourself the gift of a month of creative play.

You won't love every page you do, but hey! It's only paper & glue.
And the next day? You may just make your most favorite page EVER.

Make sure you take a look at the gallery every day & leave some love for others.
It's so fun to get feedback from others on your pages, too.

So!

Let me know you stopped by!

042113 Get a Clue!!! LOAD 513

Wow! It's almost time again for a crazy creative month of scrapbooking a layout every day!

My first inclination was to buy a trenchcoat & a hat with a large brim. (hehe)
My second was to pop out & get a 3-pack of adhesive refills! (done)

Then I did some serious thinking about how I would prepare this time, especially what photos & stories I can have at the ready.

Here is the shortlist:

No brainer - new grandbaby!  :~D

My childhood pics - the shoebox isn't empty yet...

 Continue with my menopause album.

The funny thing is that LOAD leads me into places I never expected...

...into stories that I hadn't planned to tell.

It helps me recommit to daily scrapping time.

LOAD helps me put "PLAY" on the daily To Do list.

I will also:
Use some new product - yum
Print as I go
Follow prompts

Oh, and probably a good idea to tidy up the happy scrappy place...

Here are a few of my past pre-LOAD blog posts:

013113 A LOAD of inspiration

Well, it's just about T minus 24 hours until February 2013 LOAD ScrapHappier begins!

Last night I had a mild panic attack until I double-checked my supplies & verified that I had plenty of adhesive on hand.
I decided that I really should get some new trimmer blades on my lunch break today, so I headed out to Hobby Lobby.
Beware the siren call of the scrapbook aisles...especially on the eve of LOAD!

Basics. But hey! Since when do they carry Prima masks?
And what can I do with those cool  Stampendous pearlized mica fragments?

And I love alpha rubons - must have these...

And can't pass up the clearance aisle!

Not a bad way to spend the last of my Christmas money...
Now, LOADsters - start your engines!
The fun is about to begin :~)

This is the last time my desk will be relatively clear for a month!
See you in the gallery!
