080119 Archiscraps August Challenge

Country Music Hall of Fame, Nashville, Tennessee
Incredible building!
Our Archi-scraps August challenge?
Be inspired by music.

My off-the-page entry comes from Finnabair's class that alters an LP!
Mine doesn't end up with her signature style but I'm happy with it as a tribute to my dear departed Aunie (on the right in this circa 1940s photo.)

Her love of classical music & movie scores formed the background of my childhood.  In fact, this project was crafted on one of her record albums. I purchased a modern day Victrola to play her collection & am enjoying her playlist once again.

I used modeling paste with stencils to create the lacy background & the stylized rose.

I have even included a piece of her needlework. The postcard can be unclipped to read the journaling on the back & serves to represent her career as a congressional secretary. I finished the edge with an almost defunct metallic gold pen.

Love & miss you, Aunie...

Can't wait to see how you are inspired by our Archi-scraps musical building this month!

071819 CKC July Challenge #2

Challenge #2 - Sketch

As usual, I upended the sketch...

...and rearranged a bit...

I used the frames from my kit instead of the vertical strip of paper behind the photos. My title is in the general vicinity & incorporates the doily motif. My subtitle stands in for the small element in the bottom left corner, and I'm counting the butterfly as a replacement for the flower cluster.

I layered up my title block with some of the papers from my patterned paper forgery this month to show off another of those fab chipboard pieces.

I machine-stitched the butterfly body & antennae, plus added some gold elements to bring the title block over to the other side of the page per some excellent scrap counseling with my kindred spirit.

The extra scallop accents framing the main photo is the branding strip from the background plaid paper. I stitched those pesky little alphas down to keep from finding them at the bottom of my page protector! They are from an old Basic Grey set.

A fun page to make as I L-O-V-E using a good sketch!

071219 CKC July Challenge #1

Challenge #1 - Blue or Blueberries

Tina is challenging us to use the blue papers in our kit to make a monochromatic layout or do a layout about blueberries or with blueberries.

The PERFECT paper for this challenge - 2019 MME Tutti Frutti/Blueberry Hill b-side
I got about as close to a monochromatic layout as is possible for me!

(I've been watching a lot of Missy Whidden videos of late & trying out some mixed media.)

Those Thickers Goldenrod chipboard words are really beautiful but had to be glued down. If your eyes are sharp you may notice the needle holes at the top. I had the idea to stitch with a lot of different blue threads over the burst shapes in the stencil. Ended up an oops!

I layered up the photo with a few pieces of tissue & specialty papers.

Loved getting a little messy.

Can't wait to see what you post at one of our venues:

And be sure to be back on the 18th for the second challenge!

070419 CKC Forgery on the Fourth

It is no crime to create your own version of the trendy,
hip products from the inspiration kit using your own stash & ingenuity.

Tina's inspiration kit this month is the Clique Kit June 2019 Main Kit.

I forged this Heidi Swapp - Emerson Lane/Old School paper and some flowers.
I L-O-V-E this paper!
But I didn't want to work quite that hard...

I used this Webster's Pages - My Happy Place/Pretty Plaid wood grain as my base.
Using an assortment of 6x6 papers from these pads

I loved all the dimension in the original.
I cut squares to fill the empty diamonds.
I meant to ink their edges but forgot!

I also did a quick job of forging a few flowers.
I simply stamped a grid for a little textural interest & added a blingy center.

2009 Stampabilities Tiny Grid rubber stamp, 2011 Recollections Floral embellishments, Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet Distress Ink, 2009 The Paper Studio Spare Parts brad assortment.

Don't forget that we love to see your kits and projects! Post through our Link-Up page, share them in our Facebook Community, or post them on Instagram (tag us: @counterfeitkitchallenge and use #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcjuly2019).  Come back on the 6th for some mini-kit reveals, and the 12th & 18th for challenges to help you use up your personally crafted kit. See you then!

070119 CKC July Kit Reveal

I'm celebrating America the beautiful this month!
All-American Master Forger Tina is on deck for the month of July and has chosen a very creative & prolific scrapper to join the team this month! Give a warm CKC welcome to our July Guest Designer, Kathy Sonnier McElfresh.

found here on YouTube
Tina & Kathy's friendship began over at ScrapHappy. Tina introduced Kathy to Calvinball where she was on fire this year!  Tina also turned her on to CKC when she found out that Kathy likes to make kits. They even got to meet irl at a retreat this year. Scrapsistas are the BEST.

Now to unveil Tina's choice for our July inspiration kit!
Clique Kits June 2019 "Sweet Tea" Main Kit
Tina chose these kits because they are her style & the "Sweet Tea" name sounds like summer!

Let's open up the Magic Blue Box & take a look at My Heart is Full

Starting with the papers...

Theirs:

Mine:

Top:  2018 Echo Park - You & Me/I Love Us Floral, Felicity Jane unknown kit, 2018 Pink Paislee Horizon #13, Webster's Pages - My Happy Place/Pretty Plaid (altered), 2014 Pink Paislee - Citrus Twist/Gold Foiled Vellum
Bottom: 2019 MME - Tutti Frutti/Blueberry Hill, 2018 AC - The Color of Memories #348876, 2014 Crate Paper - Open Book/Pages, 2017 Pink Fresh - Let Your Heart Decide/Thought, My Heart is Full card unknown.
The full kit:

The Thickers Goldenrod chipboard pack is my only exact match. I subbed in 2016 Dear Lizzy Bonjour alphas with gold accents, 2012 Studio Calico frames, 2014 MME Jubilee gold doily overlay, custom flowers, assorted ephemera, puffy sticker packs: 2016 Pebbles Jen Hadfield, MUST USE or lose 2017 Pink Paislee Turn the Page leftovers,  2018 Jen Hadfield Chasing Adventures, 2018 Pink Fresh Everyday Musings, white doily & tissue dots in happy mail from a special MF friend.

I chose the large Echo Park floral as my starting point. This is one of the few times that I have paused to consider how all the papers work together - I am usually hyper-focused on finding each perfect match! Light bulb moment, lol (or should that be DUH?)

Here's the hop for even more inspiration:

Tomorrow's Just the Gist post might help in analyzing the inspiration kit, and Forgery on the Fourth gives you an insider look at some of the tools & tricks used by the Master Forgers.
