080122 Archiscraps August Challenge

Archi-scraps August Challenge: use this color scheme

Isn't that ceiling incredible?!? I loved the idea of using transparency in my take on the challenge. I have some water-activated ink transfer tissue paper I've been "dying" to play with, LOL!

A friend gave me these & it's the first thing I thought of for the challenge. My colors won't be a perfect match but my photos contain some other colors, too.

I started by working on the background, using the greens for the "ground" & the blues for the "sky".

I laid out pieces where I wanted them with some overlap & misted it heavily with water. I was thinking the color would transfer to the mixed media paper but not so much... I loved how it looked when it dried so I just used the textural tissue paper once it dried. (I'm hoping the finished page never gets wet!)

Next I used the warmer colored tissue for some stamped feathers. The color looks pretty intense but as you can see below it's a lot more subtle when dry, & you get some bonus pretty tissue scraps!

After a lot of fussy-cutting I added the photos & feathers to the background. I had the perfect stamp & sentiment for the title header. I used a leftover page of stamped but uncolored feathers for the info for each cousin. Aren't they cute? <3

Isn't that yummy texture added to that tissue? I'm undecided about cutting off the ends of the feathers. I don't use albums to store my pages but boxes & I think they'll fit...

I can't wait to see how people interpret this one! Be sure to post over in the Facebook Archiscraps Community Group page.

071822 CKC July Challenge #2 - Day Tripper!

Holland MI Tulip Festival

Master Forger of Ceremonies Tina has cleverly tied our second Counterfeit Kit challenge to the Road Trip inspiration kit!

Day Tripper - Another Beatles song! Day trips are part of vacations too, Day In Your Life of your Trip is the challenge here for this 2nd challenge. A layout featuring a few aspects of your day from a trip you took, I love to add these to my trips as a fun break in the album.

Day In Your Life of Your Trip

I decided to document our May outing to the Tulip Festival with a pocket page-style gridded spread.

There's not much of my kit in here, but a whole lot of our day!

Lots of ephemera: blue gift bag scrap, brochure & logo. Menu logo below.

Fantastic organ - scan the  QR code for a video!

Ephemera to create a flip-up. Sticker nail art by by almost 7 year old granddaughter. <3

I enjoyed this so much more than an actual pocket page. I'm inspired to adopt this style more often - thanks, Tina! I hope you are inspired to create a true pocket page or a faux version like mine. Enjoy using your kit to document a great day!

Don't miss our last two posts for July:

071422 Heart's Quest Love Theme Challenge #5

I'm pleased as punch to be the Guest Designer at Becca Sadler's Heart's Quest Challenge Blog! Every month she offers two bi-weekly challenges for paper-crafting artist bloggers to participate for bragging rights as a Top 3 Pursuit Achiever! Find her other challenge at FarmQuest Challenge Blog with "themes on farming, ranching, gardening & all things rural."

The second July challenge is the Love Theme Challenge #5 which runs from July 14-27th. The topic is travel/transportation and should feature the word "love" somewhere on your project.

We took a rather epic trip in April & I haven't done much to document it yet. A stash dive for another project unearthed this beautiful paper  - perfect for Love Theme Challenge #5!

2020 Passages/"Homeward Bound" from Blue Fern Studio

My scrappy motto is, "Let the patterned paper do the work." I love the vintage vibe of this collection! I only added a few things from the Ephemera Pack plus tucked a journal card behind the printed lacy section of the heart. Here's my page:

I used a grey marker over the edge of the heart to emphasize the large shape.

Can you spy the PERFECT preprinted sentiment for the challenge?

The touring car ephemera piece is driving us across the map!

I created a little banner from more ephemera pieces.

Stats on the journal card - heart clip supports the challenge theme.

My page is quite busy which accurately represents our trip!

I'm looking forward to seeing how you were inspired - be sure to link up on the blog.

071222 CKC July Challenge #1 - Ticket to Ride

Master Forger of Ceremonies Tina chose our first July CKC challenge with a nod to our "Round Trip" inspiration kit.

Ticket to Ride! Yes a Beatles song to start us off! Part of the kit had those tickets and tags, I would like to see tickets/tags used on your layout, card or any craft project you choose. Today, use Tickets/Tags for your creation!

We had a month long trip in April & my first thought was that I must have an in-real-life pass for one of the state/national parks we visited. I found it! I also have a map & brochure of Red Rock Canyon in Hinton, Oklahoma.

We didn't have a lot of photos from here but we did hike a beautiful trail & so I decided to have my photos going diagonally in the spirit of the climb. I was a bit stumped at first as to what kit elements to use but I'm really happy with the final product!

I'm not even sure how old that transparency is! Liking the black & white accents.

I dressed up the map pocket with zigzag stitch washi tape, black pen & a puffy heart. My journaling is on the ephemera ticket tucked behind the top of the pocket.

Some fussy-cutting gave me the title banner piece & sentiment.

Now it's your turn to be inspired by Tina's "Ticket to Ride" challenge!

Plus we've got a lot of month left to inspire you:

  • 18th July: Challenges #2 - to inspire you to get creating from your own kit
  • 24th July: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  • 31st July: Killing Kits - an idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box

070122 CKC July Kit Reveal & Blog Hop

246th birthday of America!
246th birthday of America!

Master Forger of Ceremonies Tina says about her choice for July's CKC inspiration kit:

As the summer months come into being so does vacations so I thought that this would be a great kit to inspire us to get out those vacation theme scrapbook items and those vacation pictures to be scrapped.

May 2022 ROUND TRIP 12 x 12 Add-On Kit from Citrus Twist

Please welcome her Guest Designer is Clem Reid!

Hi I'm Clem, It is really exciting to be guest designer for July with the Counterfeit Kit Challenge community. I live in Shropshire UK with my husband and 6 year old daughter. I have been scrapbooking since 2003 when my American housemate introduced me and I've been obsessed with pretty papers and embellishments ever since. I love that it combines crafting and storytelling. I love how scrapbooking can bring people together who share this loved hobby. It also helps me to relax from my job as a Therapy radiographer.

I am mainly a 12x12 scrapbooker but do some pocket pages. A great kit this month. I especially love the florals, doilies and pastel colours in this kit as well as the travel theme. It seems perfect as we reach summer and can start to take more trips this year. I have pulled out lots of travel embellishments I have collected over the years and papers that have similar colours and patterns.

I can be found mainly at Clem @smilinthrulife and my new website Home - Mindful, Create, Connect (clemency-reid.com) where I will be sharing my creations.

As always I began with the papers. Theirs:

Mine:

Top: 2021 Cocoa Vanilla Sunkissed/Growing Wild, 2020 PinkFresh Let's Stay Home/Hope For A New Day-b side, 2020 PinkFresh Let's Stay Home/Kind Hearts, 2019 Echo Park Forward With Faith/Journaling Cards, cameras/prior forgery, 2019 Fancy Pants Just Plane Fun/Destinations.

Bottom: 2018 My Mind's Eye Well, Hello/Hola, Adornit Circle of Friends/Grandma-b side + stamping, 2020 Vicki Boutin Love This Life/Mixed Media, 2016 Shimelle Go Now Go/Arrival, stripe unknown, 2019 Cocoa Vanilla Unforgettable/Sprightly.

My full kit:

2020 PinkFresh Let's Stay Home Journaling Bits.

The transparency is from Creative Imaginations/Narratives - Journey.

Assorted Queen & Co Ice, Goosebumps, Jellies, Posies, Epoxies.

Art-C doilies, 2013 Jillibean Soup Wise Words, 2017 Crate Paper Here + There puffy stickers.

I have some real oldies but goodies in there! I collected a few more things while pulling my kit.

2022 49 and Market Spectrum Sherbet/Rainbow paper, 2019 PinkFresh Noteworthy/Just Be You paper, 2019 Loving Life small glitter Thickers, 2011 Regards Foam Thickers, 2003 7 Gypsies dictionary transparency, 2009 Tattered Angels Rockin' Renaissance crepe paper ribbon Mistables.

I'm hoping to mix in some of the black & white elements this month, as well as using some of those "ransom note" alpha mashup words. I think I'm loving this kit already!

Be sure to get a look at the entire hop & give us a look at your own version of this inspiration kit. We love to see how you interpret & curate it!
