100119 Archi-scraps October Challenge

The challenge is to use distressing.
This month there is a spooky seasonal flavor to our Archi-scraps challenge!

I've been wanting to document my husband's greenhouse build from this past spring. It's a lot better looking than our example above! This year I am going "off the page" with my memory-keeping for the Archi-scraps challenges & I chose a clipboard similar to this one for October.

I used black gesso & a number of products to alter the clip portion.

I also altered the 7 Gypsies element.

  Love how this came out!

I have had so much fun playing with the Archi-scraps challenges this year.

Why don't you join in? There is a huge archive of challenges available to inspire you!

091819 CKC September Challenge #2

Challenge #2

Lisa says, In the UK, September always marks the start of the new school year and whenever I see September on my calendar, my mind goes back to that time of my life. The low-lying sun, the misty mornings, the beginning of autumn, the smell of new school supplies, the familiar sights and sounds as we all piled back into the classroom.

Be inspired by this "back to school" feeling!

Three out of four grands are in school this year so I felt happy to see this challenge.

There is still time to be inspired and later this month we will be back with the following:
  • September 24th:  Lisa will be showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught her eye this month
  • September 30th: We'll be offering another installment in our {Killing Kits} series to help you find ways to use up all of your kit.
We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us.
You can use our Monthly Link-up page, post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcseptember2019).

Thanks so much for stopping by! We can't wait to see your kits and projects this month!

091219 CKC September Challenge #1

Challenge #1

As you know, we are working with a curated kit this month which is rather exciting, When I looked up the meaning of "to curate" in the dictionary, I found this definition.
verb (used with object), cu·rat·ed, cu·rat·ing.
to take charge of (a museum) or organize (an art exhibit)
to pull together, sift through, and select for presentation, as music or website content
I love the idea of pulling together some sort of exhibit or collection - isn't that what we do with our memories all the time in this wonderful hobby of ours? - Lisa

Be inspired by this definition in some way for your own project.

I used a fussy-cut sentiment paper for my title & followed the lines in the background paper for placement. I added half of a fussy-cut viewfinder with ROYGBIV puffy hearts & a stitched fussy-cut banner from my 6x6" Cool Kid paper pad, "attached" with puffy dots.

Although we've lived up here for almost three years I haven't scrapped any of my random city photos. This challenge gave me a start with a few of my faves. I didn't want to lose the pattern of the background paper by covering a lot of it up, limiting my layout options. I settled on a grid of 2x2" squares.

I love this little detail! I don't often remember to do it...

Can't wait to do more exploring here. I'm looking forward to some photo walkabouts!

Come back again soon for more CKC fun and inspiration
Here's what we still have coming up this month:
  • September 18th:  We'll give you another challenge to help you use the kit you've made.
  • September 24th:  Lisa will showcase one of the community who's caught her eye this month
  • September 30th: We'll be offering another installment in our {Killing Kits} series to help you find ways to use up all of your kit.

090619 Whimsical Musings #328

Be inspired by back to school

First I feel compelled to express my heartfelt gratitude that my favorite inspiration site, Whimsical Musings, has returned from summer vacation! Just in time for me to scrap my grand boys return to school, plus my Counterfeit Kit Challenge September "Boys Rule" kit had tons of back to school goodies in it.

My background & the paper airplane cut-out is one of my CKC forgeries.

I fussy-cut one of my kit cards to create my title along with foam letters.

The little green caped super hero came from the same card as the title sentiment.

There's another super hero embellishment from that same card!

A forged card revamped for the sentiment.

Lisa has some great ideas that expand the prompt:

Let's have a think about some other ways you could take this prompt:
  • you could take a literal approach for the start of the school year for yourself, your children or any child whose story you're recording
  • you could recall the memories around the preparations for school - how about your love for school stationery supplies?
  • what about scrapbooking supplies that feature school motifs
  • perhaps you've gone back to further education later in life - this might be the time to record that story
  • I'm also thinking about any type of learning - a new skill, a class, something just for fun - could also be included here
  • there's even the idea that you could go back to a scrapbook class that you've left unfinished and continue with the lessons, making a page with your new design/technique skills
I feel like getting back to Whimsical Musings and blogging on a more regular schedule is some sort of "back to school" so this feels so appropriate for us this week. I hope you feel this is a good way to kickstart our reboot and will join in!

I just love that it took 24 hours from seeing the current Whimsical Musings #328 prompt to craft a page that I love. Now it's your turn!

090419 CKC September Forgeries

It is no crime to create your own version of the trendy,
hip products from the inspiration kit using your own stash & ingenuity.
Lisa's inspiration kit this month is custom curated by the Secret Not Secret Kit Club.

I took the month of August off & my creativity was in full swing for kitting.
Papers first - mine on the left, theirs on the right:

Anonymous paper, dressed up with tickets, a stamp & a punched border.
 Vicki Boutin Kaleidoscope/Side Note

An ancient Amy Tangerine paper to get inky with.
Cocoa Vanilla Studio Boys Rule/Messed Up

Got to use up a bit of that cardstock I've hoarded! Cut, paste, glue.
 Vicki Boutin Kaleidoscope/Kaleidoscope

Embellishment assortment - mine on top, theirs on the bottom.

I had fun making up the pocket cards & using my star & arrow dies.
The counterfeit flair was easy peasy with Felicity Jane stamps plus circle punches.
Fussy cut view master paper plus a few old forgeries helped round out my collection.

FYI: My version of color a la the Vicki Boutin elements is courtesy of October Afternoon.
That Crate Paper Cool Kid 6x6" pad helped with a lot of the above.

I can't figure out how to discuss the process with all of these so feel free to ask!
I hope you find ways to craft your favorite elements.
Here's what we have coming up:
  • September 6th:  We'll reveal a couple of mini-kits and projects, in case you're a little limited for time this month and would prefer a more petite kit.
  • September 12th & 18th:  We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.
  • September 24th:  I'll be showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught my eye this month
  • September 30th: We'll be offering another installment in our {Killing Kits} series to help you find ways to use up all of your kit.

090119 CKC September Kit Reveal

Lo! a ripe sheaf of many golden days
Gleaned by the year in autumn's harvest ways,
With here and there, blood-tinted as an ember,
Some crimson poppy of a late delight
Atoning in its splendor for the flight
Of summer blooms and joys
This is September.
Lucy Maud Montgomery

The Secret Not Secret Kit Club custom curated September CKC inspiration kit!

Our clever Lisa found our Guest Designer & inspiration kit in one place! Khristina Sorge of the Secret Not Secret Kit Club has created a custom kit for us this month, according to Lisa's criteria. If you would like a closer look at the individual pieces here's a link to my Pinterest board.

Care to take a look inside the Magic Blue Box?

Here are my "BOYS RULE" kit papers.

(*I have a couple of the Heidi Swapp Wolf Pack papers so they have no B-side paper shown.)
The others correspond to these in the inspiration kit: Cocoa Vanilla Studios Boys Rule/"Messed Up", Cocoa Vanilla Studios Totally Rad/"Line Up", Heidi Swapp Wolf Pack/Zodiac*, Heidi Swapp Wolf Pack/Mountainside, Heidi Swapp Wolf Pack/Woodsy*, Vicki Boutin Color Kaleidoscope/Kaleidoscope, Vicki Boutin Color Kaleidoscope/Side Note, Vicki Boutin Color Kaleidoscope/Say Cheese.

Here's the full kit:

That's the main kit, but in the hunting & gathering I grabbed up some "Back to School" inspired things shown here along with my alphas & a slew of embellishments.

Okay, I got a little carried away...
My Oops! I Did It Again! add-on kit:

You will understand better after you return to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog on the 4th for our feature showcasing the Master Forger homemade versions of kit elements. I'll be sharing all the details about mine with you then!

Time to continue on the kit reveal hop:
