070116 Archi-scraps July Challenge

LINK
(Don't you just want to feed him an apple?)

This month's inspiration from Archi-scraps above produced the following criteria:
DISTRESSING-(include corrugated card if you want) -PLUS WOOD
(There doesn't have to be a horse on it.)
I had to smile at that last bit...

While browsing through recent vacation pics I chose these
two options for the obvious element - the weathered wood.

The first won out as I felt the pier would have to be a
large print & that wouldn't leave me much room to play!

I included wood veneer elements & wood-patterned sequins.
Some distress elements are the inked & dry-brushed "beach" wood veneer wood & the torn tulle.

An interesting detail to notice is how my title elements lined up with some of the details in my photo. I often notice those kinds of things when playing around with placement on a page. The palmetto and the "I" in life make a continuous visual line that marries that word to the photo even though it is hanging off of the edge. The "C" in beach borrows a starburst effect from the pickets in the fence...

More distressing with torn papers, messy stitching, & wood veneer accented with paint.
I used some walnut ink for some splatters (you can see a little on the kraft edge) but it turned out too dark. I used a white pen to mute the color & I'll confess that those white clouds hide a BIG splatter mess! I also dry-brushed the corrugated cardboard elements that flank the photo to mimic the fence.

It was fun to incorporate all of the criteria on this one!

(And no horse, teehee)

062016 WM#212 Inspired By Daily

Lisa asked us back in early May to

Daily routines - both good and bad, things you do, think, eat or drink on a daily basis.

Maybe you've participated in LOAD and would like to make a page
about that experience or another daily challenge - whatever that might be!

Things that happened daily in the past but not today.

Things that you'd LIKE to be part of your daily routine even.

* * * * *

I was traveling when this prompt came out so it's been percolating awhile, hehe...

The photo was taken on my birthday last year trying out my new selfie stick.
The coffeepot image is the cover of the booklet that came with the pot.
Yes - I saved it! I knew it would come in handy, lol.

This month you can get a free Studio Calico kit for only $5.00 shipping!
I can't really get a photo to do justice to the color in these gorgeous papers.

The yellow puffy Pinkfresh Studio letters & "love" puffy sticker came from last month's Note to Self Felicity Jane kit. The"good morning" stamp around the border is from FJ's That One Day kit.

The PL card & cup diecut are American Crafts/Shimelle True Stories ephemera.
I added the little bird silhouette to bring in a little more black.
I dearly wanted to use rub-ons for the coffee steam but opted instead for stitching.
I also added machine stitching with variegated thread around the inner border.

I needed just a little something added to the JAVA love title, so I ferreted out these Hambly rub-ons.

I doubt that I ever would have scrapped that bed head photo without this WM prompt.
Head over to the blog & choose from the 216 prompts on file & be inspired!

060616 CKC June Challenge #1

Time again for CKC's first challenge of the month!

 Challenge #1 Inspiration Board

Choose one of the boards HERE that works with the color/mood of your own counterfeit kit.
The images that you are seeing are only partial so if something looks promising, take a closer look!

I loved this one with my Create Happy kit, and as I'm scrapping vacation photos
at the moment I will use this as a moonlit beach inspiration.

And just to make things interesting I'm using Lisa's WM#214 prompt recipe!

Musings À La Whimsy
  • (makes one page)
  • Pre-heat the printer to print two photos
  • Take 4 different sheets of paper
    • make sure to add in something old, a dash of something new and at least one pocket page card
  • Fussy cut an element and add to the mix
  • Stir in at least two different types of other embellishment
  • Layer up generously
  • Top off with pre-prepared photos, cropped according to taste
  • Season with a sprinkle of ink/mist/paint to achieve desired effect
  • Optional:- extra seasoning can include sequins, enamel dots or puffy elements
  • Title your creation with one large and one small alpha for that personal, finishing touch
  • This is the perfect accompaniment to time alone with a beverage of your choice.
Here are all of the ingredients!

And here's the tasty result:

My wet element was gesso thru a stencil, then sprinkled with LuminArte Primary Elements.
Extra seasonings were some diecut hearts, an acrylic heart & sequins.
There are even some tiny puffy circles in the center of my fussy-cut flower (top right)

My forged PL card below couldn't have been more perfect with the "rain go away" sentiment!
More extra seasoning with the transparent clip tab element, my little punched birdie & a puffy heart.

This was a really fun scrappy multi-challenge :D

060416 CKC June Forgeries

Ahhh... here we are again at CKC, working on master forgeries!

There is just such a fun challenge to filling in my counterfeit kit with
my own creations when my stash doesn't yield a component that I want included.

These Jillibean Wordfetti
wood veneers were irresistible.
Easy-peasy!
Cute Felicity Jane & Art-C stamps do the job
onto Jillibean wood veneer shapes.
(I think mine are more interesting!)

Although I didn't forge any of the papers I did a Project Life-style
version of a couple of them, like this doodled stripe...

These are my stand-ins for the cut apart card sheet in the paper pack.

The b/w "BEAUTIFUL" card was fashioned from a Felicity Jane stamp & striped journaling card, dressed up with doodling to mimic the striped paper shown below. Next is a Shimelle "Starshine" embelli - I actually used one strand of thread & did the string art as printed on the card for a little extra dimension. Below that is a transparency element on printed paper, a nod to another kit paper (below.) A MME Jubilee photo overlay over an aqua watercolor scrap followed by the butterfly kisses card round out my  collection.

May Hip Kit papers:

A little disappointed - I really had hoped to get artsy with some watercolors this month...

Be sure & share with us what you've dreamed up as a
substitute for an elusive element in your very own counterfeit kit!

060216 A Few Loose Ends

Just a little wrap up of a few pages of late...

Totally FUN moment with my daughter on a recent beach vacation.
The little crabs are a punch, and I added the cute little eyes.

Could that card more perfectly match her expression, lol :D

My June Archi-scraps page was revealed on the first of the month.
(Be sure to pop over & see the rest of the team's pages.)
Here's the inspiration - the challenge is mosaic/color scheme.

My take:

I grabbed a couple of 6x6" paper pads in the right colors.
I used some floral punches to create the mosaic element.
(I couldn't resist adding the stamped emojis to enhance the progression in the photos!)

And the page was begging for a little something top right.
A quick snip of one of the ruler papers, an FJ stamp, a banner shape & a quick fussy-cut & voila!

Next up is today's page, WM#211 - inspired by sunshine

(I'm guessing that someone heard that she was going to the ocean)

I cut a transparency PL card in half to put the ocean on either side.
I love how much color it adds!
The warm late afternoon sun was so great for photos.

Lots more vacation photos to scrap!
Most will be in a mini-book that's in progress...

Thanks for stopping by!
