100120 Archi-scraps October Challenge

Circles & layers

Our October Archi-scraps challenge was inspired by this amazing edifice.

I found this little lovely to scraplift (knowing that I had a multi-photo page to scrap) by searching my Pinterest Scrap Inspo board for circle pages.

Link HERE

In spite of the fact that it has no circles (lol) it inspired me, knowing my circles could be a background for the photos. I tucked in & popped up elements, including my title, for layers. I also used textured cardstock to add one more layer.

I had intended to stick with the 8-1/2x11 format but it proved too small for my story.

Had a great time & bonus! - love how the page turned out.

Won't you be inspired by the October Archi-scraps inspiration?

100119 CKC October Kit Reveal

October is my birth month (yay, me!)
and the kit Laura has chosen this month
is - just like me - a definite throwback...

Let's take a look at
"Brand new October Afternoon Woodland Park conjures
images of bright blue skies and green grass.
We've paired it with just-released American Crafts,
Pebbles and Basic Grey, and finished the mix with
exclusive die cuts, badges, an alphabet and a label stamp set.
With our August kit, this summer can last forever."
Studio Calico August 2012 "Summer of '69" Main Kit

Studio Calico August 2012 "Summer of '69" Add On Kits
Here is Laura's intro to the kit & to our October Guest Designer!

Now, I know we always try to stay current for the challenge, but I thought this kit would work so well.
The name might imply summer, but the colours would work just as well for Autumn or spring layouts.
Many of us have been scrapping several years now and have a fair amount of stash.
This kit includes papers from some of the great manufacturers we all used to coo over - October
Afternoon, Basic Grey etc, so what a perfect way for us to have a rummage and pull out some older stuff
from our stash to use up.

Our guest designer for this month is a lovely follower of ours who plays along almost every month on Instagram.
Her name is Ayaan Nambier and she is from India. She has a dedicated scrappy profile and creates the most
beautiful and colourful layouts.

My version begins with the main kit & is sprinkled with pieces from the add-on kits.

Let's open up the Magic Blue Box & take a look at
Autumn of 2019

I chose my papers based on color & pattern from the inspiration: chevrons, dots, large allover print, sky,
 small print, navy, kraft swirl.

2011 Basic Grey/Out of Print 6x6; 2016 Echo Park/Just Be You Dream Big b-side; 2013 October Afternoon/Snapshots Focus b-side; WeRMemory Keepers/Farmers Market floral;  2011 Basic Grey/Plumeria Zig; WeRMemory Keepers/Farmers Market small print; 2018 Pink Paizlee/Indigo & Ivy 06; 2012 Crate Paper/The Pier Cotton Candy. *There is also a hexagon 12x12 paper that went walkabout. I mean - seriously disappeared... I can't wait to see where it turns up!

 The full kit:

Made a few counterfeits, so be sure to return on the fourth to check those out.

 Now let's keep hopping!

  • October 2nd: I'll be back with a "Just the Gist" post to help jump-start your kit-making.
  • October 4th: We'll have our "Forgery on the Fourth" post where the Master Forgers will reveal how they created their own version of some of the items in this month's kit.
  • October 6th: We'll reveal a couple of mini-kits and projects, in case you're a little limited for time this month and would prefer a more petite kit.
  • October 12th & 18th: We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.
  • October 24th: I'll be showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught my eye this month

050419 iNSD CKC/BYSS Collaboration

Say what?!?

A beautiful complement to what we do at Counterfeit Kit Challenge, Bash Your Scrapbook Stash Facebook group is all about challenges that keep your stash moving along & off the shelves (or bins, boxes & bags...) to live happily ever after in the sunlight on your pages & projects.

We are collaborating today to make iNSD a lot more fun! I had the privilege to do a Facebook Live over there to introduce ourselves & explain how all things CKC work! Our ovn Tina Campbell chose this kit to counterfeit as part of the festivities:

June 2018 Studio Calico "Explorer" kit

Here's my counterfeit "Shine" kit:

Here's Susan's sketch plus my version:

I knew that I wanted to scrap my April #30daysofselfies & that those rows of circles could be replaced with filmstrip-style photos!

I used my counterfeit alphas, made from naked chipboard inked with the arrow patterns, for my title.

(I think this was my favorite <3)
In all of the excitement of presenting the kit & discussing some of the approaches to curating a CKC-inspired kit, I neglected to address an entire section of my presentation, lol! These represent other options for the papers in the inspiration kit:

and how some of them might play nice in a kit together:

Just a little bonus to whet your appetite.
I hope this special day was a scrappy success!

090117 September CKC Kit Reveal

#tooearlyforfall
but perfect for Clair's September inspiration!

But first! let me introduce our Guest Designer, Jess

I’m Jess, I am 29 and from the U.K. I love pocket scrap-booking, planning in my travelers notebook and creating happy mail to send to my pen pals across the globe. I will be posting regular blogs at Jess Claire Creates about all the crafty, creative things I get up to.
You can also find me on Instagram:  Jess.Claire.Creates
And on YouTube: JessClaire Creates
I am also part of the creative team for UK Scrap Addicts
On the blog: UKscrapaddicts blog
And on YouTube: UKscrapaddicts Youtube

On to the inspiration! Clair tells about her choice for this month's kit: "I've chosen a kit from September 2016 that, to me at least, seemed like a nice transition between summer and autumn. It makes me think of the outdoors, camping, cooler evenings and warm cider. It's the Lost River Kit from Studio Calico. I hope that you like it!"

September 2016 Lost River Kit from Studio Calico
Let's open up the Magic Blue Box & explore my September counterfeit!

There are a lot of elements I liked (pennants, kraft envelopes, doodled tree paper),
but I was more inspired by the mood board on the blog reveal (hence the name of my kit):

Yummy!Here is my gridded match-up:
I have two grands starting kindergarten this year plus eclipse photos to scrap, which directed many of my choices. (I don't always think ahead like that!) I've rounded out my kit with those pages in mind.

My version of the Project Life-style cards:

I have collected some alphas & will return to my stash as needed.

Hop on for more Master Forger inspiration, and don't forget to return on the 4th for our Forgery on the Fourth post that gives you the inside scoop of creating counterfeits of some of your favorite elements. That could be as easy as a free printable download, so don't miss it!

Can't wait to see what you put together!

062016 WM#212 Inspired By Daily

Lisa asked us back in early May to

Daily routines - both good and bad, things you do, think, eat or drink on a daily basis.

Maybe you've participated in LOAD and would like to make a page
about that experience or another daily challenge - whatever that might be!

Things that happened daily in the past but not today.

Things that you'd LIKE to be part of your daily routine even.

* * * * *

I was traveling when this prompt came out so it's been percolating awhile, hehe...

The photo was taken on my birthday last year trying out my new selfie stick.
The coffeepot image is the cover of the booklet that came with the pot.
Yes - I saved it! I knew it would come in handy, lol.

This month you can get a free Studio Calico kit for only $5.00 shipping!
I can't really get a photo to do justice to the color in these gorgeous papers.

The yellow puffy Pinkfresh Studio letters & "love" puffy sticker came from last month's Note to Self Felicity Jane kit. The"good morning" stamp around the border is from FJ's That One Day kit.

The PL card & cup diecut are American Crafts/Shimelle True Stories ephemera.
I added the little bird silhouette to bring in a little more black.
I dearly wanted to use rub-ons for the coffee steam but opted instead for stitching.
I also added machine stitching with variegated thread around the inner border.

I needed just a little something added to the JAVA love title, so I ferreted out these Hambly rub-ons.

I doubt that I ever would have scrapped that bed head photo without this WM prompt.
Head over to the blog & choose from the 216 prompts on file & be inspired!

090315 CKC September Tutorials

This month's CKC kit to forge presented a huge opportunity for you to shine!
Every item is a Studio Calico exclusive, so odds are your stash won't yield a direct match.
But the good news is that the patterns are very simple & graphic.

Studio Calico "Pop Art" kit

My "Stolen Masterpieces" forgery
This is the best look at their patterned papers.

My papers:

All but the first two were made from scratch!
I used 8-1/2 x 11" size to make it easy to use my home printer.

In no particular order...

In the SC full kit photo it was clear that this was an "8" from a cloud image.
My husband was a meteorologist so I have a full range of cloud papers ;~)

I simply took a piece of 8-1/2 x 11" cardstock, folded it in half and using
3" & 4" punched circles folded in half, I traced those shapes as a pattern.
Then I measured 1" away every inch or so to get a cutting line for the outside.

The SC text paper had Summer phrases with the occasional phrase highlighted.
I used another poem. Easy-peasy! Just print & scrap.

This paper was so simple, too.
Pink cardstock, yellow & black paint - bam!
A little trick to making painted circles?
Use the wrong end of your paint brush & you get a nice round dot.

This one's even easier!
I would be surprised if everyone doesn't have a version of this in their kit.
I used kraft instead of gold... punched circles, stuck 'em down.

Well, I thought I had this all figured out, but...
that row at the bottom went one too far - oh, well!
(You hadn't even noticed, had you?)

I subbed in fussy-cut feathers for the ferns...

...from these free printable images by Oh, So Lovely

All of these PL style cards came from free printables:

Popsicles card from Design Love Fest
Happy, Jesus Saviour & clouds cards from Danielle Burkleo
(also the floral forged paper)
Mountains card from Oh So Lovely
Bear w/constellations by Jo Cheung from Feed Your Soul
More printables from Design Love Fest were used for my
transparencies, as well as some black & white stamped images.
I printed them onto transparency paper & punched them out.

This turned out to be a bit problematic.
The punches weren't keen on going cleanly through the transparency.
It helped a bit to back them with paper but I could have easily wrecked my punches.
Simpler perhaps to just freestyle, like the arrow & banner.

All of these printable links were featured in a post by our own Lisa Hausmann
on the first link of Recklinghausen Musings 15 Loves {August 2015} post
Be sure you keep up regularly with the Master Forger blogs!
LOADS of inspiration there.

Don't forget that when you use free printables it should be
for your own personal use & not for resale of any sort,
and link to the original artist whenever possible.
Naming my kit "Stolen Masterpieces" was a big nod to the artwork
shared so generously by all of the artists, as well as a play on the word forgery.

I hope you've been inspired!
Nothing was especially creatively challenging but the end results looked great :~)
