011821 CKC Challenge #2

Let's Begin!

Master Forger of Ceremonies Lisa says:  A new year, a new month, a new start, a new kit! January is all about beginnings and therefore, I'd like to challenge you to record the start of something new - or a fresh start or a restart - on your pages. Or maybe you could start a new technique for the first time on your page. Or try a new design. Or a new-to-you colour combination. I'm sure you can find a starting point to inspire us all!

Just as I was beginning to work on this prompt, I reached a very important milestone in my health journey - under 200 pounds! Of course I had to document THAT. I used this Becky Fleck sketch from A Cherry on Top:

A sketch has been a good go-to for me lately (plus I get "cherry points"!) I grabbed this 2017 Felicity Jane London paper divided it and combined the back & front to make my background paper. (I liked the little wink at the horizontal scallop in the sketch.)

I added two skinny washi tapes at the join of the two sides (one a scallop!) Then I went searching for some tags. Be still my heart! Beautiful BasicGrey tags - so old they are made from single-sided paper.

I layered up a doily by stamping it with a decorative circle from one of my kit stamp sets, adding a smaller punched circle covered in another of my washi tapes. Next a clothing tag from my new two sizes down dress, which after the final clearance price & a reward discount cost me $6.00! On top of all of that is the smallest BG tag, all tied up together with a pretty bow.

My photo is me standing on the scale at 199.2 - WOOHOO! My bestie coined the phrase "Underland" for falling below 200 pounds. The other large tag contains my journaling on a vellum overlay.

I add this Vicki Boutin puffy sticker phrase where the sketch shows some journaling strips.

As much as I love how the page turned out, I love my story even more!

C'mon - you know you've got a story to tell about a new start, a beginning, a restart, or a personal highlight! Join in over at Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog  & show us over at the CKC Facebook community or on our Instagram account how this challenge inspired you!

And don't forget that we still have this ahead in January:

24th January: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month

·        30th January: Killing Kits - An idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box

081820 - CKC August Challenge #2

Family Fun!
Master Forger of Ceremonies Tina has discovered a great theme for the month of August.  Every year, "Family Fun Month" is celebrated throughout the month of August.  It is the opportune time to enjoy family with extra fun and activities. Show us how your family has fun!
We had a "grand" day at the blueberry U-pick farm. It was a first for the grands & two out of three enjoyed it :) The third enjoyed eating them later the most!

I decided to use this sketch challenge from A Cherry on Top:

I grabbed the blueberriest blue paper in my August kit for the background. I didn't really want to add that second paper in the center so I used some of my micro-washi tape to suggest that layer. Some cute diecut blueberries made one cluster, the title a second & a final sentiment the third - all adorned with cute bug stickers. A journaling spot filled in a hole in my design due to the horizontal orientation of my photos. I also really didn't like the "trapped space" square in the center of the sketch, so I fussy-cut a cute pic of one of my berry bearers revealing her haul!

I had fun popping things up for a little dimension & adding the little bugs for whimsy!

Don't forget to return for the rest of August's featured posts:

081220 CKC August Challenge #1

Master Forger of Ceremonies Tina has chosen a sketch challenge for our first project.
"Do you ever consider what your style is when it comes to scrapbooking? My favorite thing to do besides making monthly kits with inspiration from Counterfeit Kit Challenge is sketches! So the 1st challenge is this sketch."

I've taken a different approach this month by choosing photos that I'm excited to document & then mining my kit for product. Not revolutionary to many but I struggle with the photo side, the whole process of weeding out & deciding on size & photoshopping & printing - ugh!
I've already created 4 layouts!

As always when I use a sketch I change it up to suit myself. In this case I left the photos where they were but flipped the entire background. My title ended up vertical & horizontal, jigsaw puzzle style! I chose photos that didn't really have a story but illustrated a truth in my daughter's household - these two are best buds - and which one is the pillow varies from day to day!

Okay, it's your turn! And be sure to share with us.

Here's what we still have coming up this month:
  • August 18th: We'll give you another challenge to help you use the kit you've made.
  • August 24th: Showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught our eye this month.
  • August 24th: Kill the Kit post to help use up what's left!
We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can use our Monthly Link-up page, post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcaugust2020).
