be inspired by stars or constellations or the night sky.

"The universe has no limit!"

My generation was raised in the era of "The Space Race", 

a time of unparalleled exploration, discovery & amazing achievements. 

My family took a trip when I was young to Cape Canaveral in Florida,

the home of  the launch pad & Mission Control.

Today it is called Kennedy Space Center and it is a fantastic place to visit. 

We had a thrilling day there on our March 2017 Winter Break vacation.

I wanted to include the brochures and quickly realized that to include all of my photos I would need to add a pocket flap. Yay! More real estate on the back side. I've also used the ticket stubs & a post card that shows a dramatic launch photo (plus some cute flair & a fussy-cut rocket.)

Flip the flap with the postcard and you see the full 1-1/2 page spread.

It's hard to grasp the drama from this photo so I will go in closer.

Note the sheer size of the building compared to the cars - there are rockets in there!

The 3-dimensional history of the space program.

Again, it is a matter of conveying the scale using the people. This runs the full length of the gallery.

And on the flip side of the coin, this vintage capsule can barely be entered!

Imagine being one of those pioneers blazing a trail into space! 

It was a really memorable visit to a fascinating place.

Now I will have to figure out how to get some of the story I've told here onto the page...

For this prompt, Lisa has challenged us to be inspired by the Summer Solstice, more particularly,

"...the phenomenon of 'white nights' is something that I find fascinating. 

Nights that don't turn dark - or just for a few hours only."

Background map paper is 2013 Echo Park/Reflections "Cherish the Moment"

I am blessed to live in a Northern location & experience this to a degree.

I searched for the specific data that goes with this photo & discovered 

that the Farmer's Almanac chronicles not just the official sunrise/sunset times

but also "dark descends" & "dawn breaks"! That is what I was searching for.

Whimsical Musings has been inspiring me for many years. 

I hope that you will take advantage of over 300 (!) challenge prompts that will 

help you tell your story more completely, more intimately, and more creatively.

082318 WM#272 be inspired by national dress

Whimsical Musings #272 be inspired by national dress.

In June, 1984 our precious Aunie took us on a British Isles tour to celebrate Greg's college graduation. I scrapped the trip in its own album long ago but remembered this photo of all of us in our new Irish togs - Greg got an Aran black sheep wool cardigan, I got a traditional Aran pullover (knit by Mrs. Galvin, according to the tag!) and Aunie chose a beautiful plaid wool wraparound kilt skirt. The photo was snapped in front of the woolen mill.

I checked on my "Scrap Inspiration" Pinterest board & found this for a scraplift:

Here's my take: 

My background paper is 2017 Echo Park/Go. See. Explore. "Let's Fly Away".

All alphas are from my zealously guarded October Afternoon stash. 

The green stripe is 2015 OA/Summertime "Fresh Fruit" b-side.

The orange xoxo pattern is 2017 Pink Fresh Studio/Live More "Honest" b-side.
I included the stitching detail along the edges & punched a few tiny hearts for shamrocks.

I made the Xs & Os with colors from the flag of Ireland to reinforce the national theme.

Looking through this old album has inspired me to get out my "big" camera & have a play!

082218 WM Challenge #221

WM Challenge #221 be inspired by water

This was definitely "in the moment" scrapping. We have just finished this backyard project and it was on my WM list. The design ended up being so much like my recent #227 NOLA page with the vertical division. 

This page includes something old & something new. The background paper on the left is from a single-sided paper pad of 2015 Maggie Holmes/Confetti collection. The "my happy place" cut apart card (and that adorable little lady) came from the 2018 Simple Stories/My Happy Place collection. The dreamy treed portal came from the ancient (at leazt 2010) DCWV/Once Upon A Time collection. The fussy-cut florals are from 2013 Kaisercraft/Tea Break collection. Mini-alphas are 2013 MME/Chalk Studio. 

A few details:

I left a pocket behind the top photo for the plant information.

Had a lot of fun dressing the card up with stitching (looks better irl) + oops! missed a spot on the "y"!

Definitely destined to become our happy place.

082018 WM#235 Be Inspired By Night Time

I am really enjoying catching up on my Whimsical Musings prompt list! 

This one is from October 2016 (gack!) & I had a note to use our trail cam photos. 

I used some of the lenses from the background paper behind the 

raccoon eyes & popped up on the camera embellishment to add dimension.

I got to use up some old product, too.

On to the next prompt!

081818 Whimsical Musings #227

Whimsical Musings Challenge #227 

Be inspired by this pinned colour scheme of teal, aqua, pale green, orange and coral with a hint of metallic.

I matched up these photos with this challenge and promptly tucked them away in my list of unscrapped prompts!  I am intending to use the 300th prompt anniversary to finally achieve so many of the ideas on my unfinished prompt list. No pressure!!!

First a couple of details before the reveal. I almost always mail myself a postcard when we travel & I wanted to include this one on the page and be able to read the message on the back. I'm almost finished with a traveler's notebook about this trip and there wasn't any room for it in there.

 The card is kind of heavy & the clips aren't very firm, so I chose my next-to-the-last pair (gasp!) of magnetic snaps from Basic Grey to hold it in place & remove it.

These little string bows are trending right now so I made one out of bakers twine.

Metal accents per the prompt include a fleur-de-lis which appears on the New Orleans flag.

 

I added copper sequins to accent one of the floral elements.  

A little nod to the musical culture of the city.

A fun page to play around with!

122217 Snow Day

Archi-scraps January challenge - tassels

Julene has outdone herself with the January challenge inspiration. I need to see this one in person!

I have really been enjoying playing around with the Stuck?! Sketches lately.

Stuck?! Sketches December 15, 2017

 I liked it turned once to the right with these snow day photos of the grands.

First I knew that I wanted a snowflake for my shape behind the photos, 

so I grabbed some "waste washi" & color shine. Love how it looked before I did anything!

 I added tinsel color shine & white paint splats.

Anyone notice my boo-boo? I left the washi roll on the paper when I sprayed!

I made a nice save on that, as you'll see later.

The color & shine is really gorgeous.

I stitched the snowflake with silver thread & added lots of little snowflakes & tiny beads.

I've added a few touches of trim & washi to highlight my photos.  The beautiful tassel was a handmade forgery gifted to me by another Counterfeit Kit Challenge DT member.

 

That washi oops circle provided a great place for my title!
