Let me remind you of our inspiration kit:

Scrapbook Werkstatt's February kit

I was attracted to this geometric b-side:

Crate Paper Fresh Bouquet "Flutter"

 So I made this!

 

With these:

Confused?!?!? Apparently so was I! I spied THIS paper from a DIFFERENT Crate Paper collection & proceeded to forge it... by mistake.

This is how I did it:

I stamped & cut out a bunch of the motifs from computer paper & then played around with the arrangement until I liked it.

I had made light pencil lines on the cardstock base from corner to corner for orientation when stamping. Took a snapshot & then worked my way out from the center. 

 I also did some fussy-cut diecut forgeries that should be fun to play with!

010421 CKC January Forgery on the Fourth

 

 Our January inspiration kit:

Not Just For Boys Flurries Deluxe Theme Kit

I decided to forge the Carta Bella- Let it Snow "Swirling Snowflakes" paper

and the “Hot Cocoa Mug” cardstock cut designed by Jillibean Soup.

I used Ranger Archival black ink to stamp snowflake images from 2008 Inkadinkado "Winter Trails" and "Cool Christmas" stamp sets, plus a lone snowflake from Making Memories 2010 Noel stamp set to fill in where needed. The background paper is the Paper Studio's 2008 Wood Fence. Easy-peasy, and I sure got in a lot of OLD stash-busting, lol!

 The die cut mug was modeled after one of my favorite holiday mugs.

I turned the photo black & white and printed it in Draft mode set to very light saturation to save ink. I ditched the reindeer (that was too fussy to cut, even for me!) and add some striped bands and some steamy heat rising from the cup. A wood veneer snowflake ups the cuteness factor to finish it off.

020420 CKC February Forgery on the Fourth

The February Counterfeit Kit Challenge inspiration kit had one item that I found irresistible!

THE BEES!

Aren't these adorable? I'm thinking that along with some of the flowers in my kit I may make a headband for my granddaughter, or maybe a crown for me!

First off I thought those chubby little bodies looked just like a bead (or a button?) that I have (somewhere, lol) so I hunted & gathered.

The cute altered wings came in an ArtChix Studio order years ago. There's the wooden button, and I will use the skinny gold washi tape for the stripes, wire for the antennas & perhaps to attach some parts.

 I painted the button with black gesso.

And added this sweet little heart bead for a stinger!

The tricky bit was getting the antennas attached.

Look at those baby blue eyes!

Although there were none of these in the inspiration kit, I wanted to upgrade my navy chipboard alphas & so I added yellow foam on the back. I even "Frankensteined" the E! Juzt be careful to cut straight down along the sides of the letter & use a craft blade for the fiddly bits.

I had some ideas for counterfeiting the papers but found too many in my stash to need them.

010419 CKC January Forgeries

Counterfeit Kit Challenge

It is no crime to create your own version of the trendy, 

hip products from the inspiration kit using your own stash and ingenuity.

 A new year, a new look...

I tackled two of the papers shown in the Jen Schow unboxing video HERE

& my own variation of these tulle bows

 

The circles were a quick job with a Sharpie pen. I liked more variety in the sizes but had to choose to like the messy scribbled look. The sentiment came from the stamp set in the inspiration, only my own version:

I felt that for me the sweet tulle bows were a little too precious, so I fashioned mine from crepe paper.

I sewed the embroidery floss to the center of each strip of crepe paper with a zigzag stitch, which allowed me to gather it in & tie it together, nice & full.

Oh, I do love the forging almost as much as the memory keeping!

110418 CKC Forgery on the Fourth

The inspiration kit papers:

Although I really adored the color scheme of the inspiration kit, when I searched for a larger patterned paper to start from I ended up with the center paper below - 2010 Basic Grey Hopskotch "Kissing Tag".

I knew right away that the clamshell pattern would be an easy forgery of the Crate Paper by Maggie Holmes/Willow Lane "Violet" b-side paper, using a Prima stencil & some mists!

So what does the photo below have to do with my second forgery?

This coffee cup sits on my desk because it makes the most perfect coffee ring stamp! I used Distress Inks blotted onto the cellophane packaging on the right & misted to create a wet ink puddle to stamp with my cup & blot with a stencil brush. A few splats of walnut ink finished off the forgery of the American Crafts by Vicki Boutin/Field Notes "Daydreamer" paper.

 So how did I do? I hope I inspired you to give counterfeiting a whirl. It's a great way to get elements of the inspiration kit into yours by making a coordinating version. Have a go at it!

030418 CKC March Forgeries

Here is the March inspiration kit:

So much to love - so much to FORGE!

I loved the woodgrain paper with hearts & originally thought that I would  punch out the hearts & sew them on. Then I saw this Instagram post from Suse Fish  and changed direction, straight to my stencil box & modeling paste.

 

Ever hear of the self-adhesive stencil tip where you pat it on your clothing to minimize the stickiness? It still tore my paper - booooo - when I tried to reposition it.

 

Applied the modeling paste... 

 

Tore the paper again!!! grrrrrrr...

Loads more fun was getting inky to counterfeit the puffy elements (hearts in  Susan's case, star's in mine) with colored ink & embossing powder + a tiny little heart banner & a stamped word, and journaling cards.

  

Half the fun of building your kit each month can be creatively forging the elements you love!
