051821 May CKC Challenge #2

Master Forger of Ceremonies Julene's second challenge is the colour palette above.

Be inspired by the colours turquoise and red. Scrap a page or cards featuring these colours, plus white, black and kraft permitted as well.) These two photos will help you. It doesn't have to be a kitchen/cooking theme!

I really love this color combo! And I loved this sketch from a private group I'm in.

I flipped it on it's side so that the strips could become banners. I also ignored the chevrons lol! I used a bubble border punch to represent the horizontal circles. I had to cut my white cardstock background in order to put a row of punched circles on either side of that horizontal. I backed the circles with a darker teal per the "recipe" & then covered the seam with a b-side paper that perfectly mimics the black & white check in the inspiration photo! Serendipity...

If you were following along at CKC on iNSD, you might recognize this layout as the final challenge, which was to use what was all over your desk at the end of that Saturday. I had to prepare ahead for that post but had been working all day with my kit & here is what my desk looked like:

Because we work ahead on the Design Team, I came across this charmingly precious photo of the Queen & her consort posted after his death. I knew my kit was the perfect product because of the color scheme.

I have scrapped some of  the major "royal" events over the years as I came to have a real affection for Britain from visiting a few times. Prince Philip's passing definitely earned a place in my archives.

I hope you get a chance to work on Challenge #2 & I'll be looking for your creation! There's plenty to keep you inspired this month so don't forget to come back here regularly for ideas and challenges. The month is going to look like this:
  • 24th May: Follower Showcase - Who has caught our eye this month?
  • 31st May: Killing Kits - Some ideas for using those last little bits!
We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcmay2021).

051221 May CKC Challenge #1

Master Forger of Ceremonies Julene's first challenge for us?

Scrapbook an OLD recipe. Perhaps you have one handed down from mother or grandmother or further back than that. Use those cookery items you added to your kit to scrap it. You could tell a little about the original person on your layout or perhaps even add a small photo of them.

Last month on our Spring Break trip we visited Laurel, Mississippi, home of the HGTV HomeTown renovation/improvement show. On the season's last episode a legendary Laurel recipe surfaced inside a cupboard door - Miss Dot's Sour Cream Pound Cake! The cake would be delivered to anyone who moved into the neighborhood over the years, including the hostess of the show. The recipe included a phone number & they actually reached Miss Dot. A cooking date was arranged, the cake was baked, and the very next day many fans of the show baked it themselves. I decided to give it a try and I'm sharing the recipe with you!

It was fabulous, especially since I haven't been eating carbs or sugar, hehe. I cut the cake into 24 small servings & froze what we didn't eat that night. I think I overfilled the bundt pan but read later that I could have made muffins with the extra batter. You could also make it in loaf pans.

I had a lot of fun working with my uber-themey kit. Now it's your turn to give this challenge a try & celebrate a special recipe or person!

There's plenty to keep you inspired this month so don't forget to come back here regularly for ideas and challenges. The month is going to look like this:
  • 18th May: Challenge #2 - A little extra inspiration to make the most of your kit!

050121 May CKC Kit Reveal

MAY all of your culinary adventures this month be tasty!

Master Forger Julene had this in mind when she chose the Counterfeit Kit Challenge inspiration kit - more on that in a moment...

First let's welcome our May Guest Designer, Kyla Skidmore Schrake!

Be sure to stop in at her blog & enjoy her creativity.

Now let's look at our vintage inspired inspiration kit!

Close to My Heart's "Eat Play Love Scrapbooking Workshop Kit"
Companion kits are at the bottom of the page at the link.

So want to get a look at mine?

The foundation for my version is the 2018 Authentique/Ingredient collection! The color is mostly perfect & I selected the foodie-oriented papers. I scavenged my stash for every wood veneer on subject. A good variety of alphas, embellishments & stickers round out the mix.

Two extra papers unearthed after I put my kit together got tossed in at the last minute & may/may not be perfect for a challenge this month... hmmm...

So put on your apron, follow the recipe & gather your ingredients for the perfect counterfeit kit!

Need a little more inspiration? Keep checking out what our Guest Designer & Master Forgers have whipped up on the blog hop!

041821 April CKC Challenge #2

Don your beret & join in with the spirit of the Counterfeit Kit Challenge forger vibe & scraplift the SCT Design Team!

Choose from an assortment of single page, double spread & card inspiration from the Garden Party inspiration kit creations by the Scrapbook & Cards Today Design Team.

Link here https://scrapbookandcards.com/garden-party-scrapbook-kit/ to view the project gallery found below the kit reveal, including detail shots. Maybe one of the close-up elements alone will inspire you!

My favorite was this one by SCT Design Team Member Nathalie DeSousa:

My kit didn't include any cut files but this Momenta die seemed perfect! I used it as a stencil for a misted background using Shimmers Vibes: Plum Pudding, Sunset Strip, Seas the Day & Sweet Heart...

Then I backed a 5th cut with the 2011 My Mind's Eye/Love Me "Pink Hex" paper, b-side (x & o) and popped it up with craft foam for a little more dimension.

I added some clusters in a visual triangle until I was happy with them. I really wanted to use up those stacked florals from Shimelle's 2019 Never Grow Up collection. A couple of Instax photos were planned to use from a date lunch later in the day so I included the chipboard camera, which became very important to the little story.

I decided to hand stitch the love words on the background for some texture. Then I started to stamp a border, but did NOT love it... time for some camouflage a la Master Forger Tara!

That's much better! Added a little journaling & the photos & done!

There is a lot to inspire you on the Scrapbook & Cards Today Design Team gallery, so give them a look & grab your kit :D

There's still a couple of items on our calendar to inspire you so don't forget to come back here:

  •  24th April: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  •  26th April: May Sneak Peek on social media
  •  30th April: Killing Kits - An idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box

041221 CKC April Challenge #1

Al Fresco

Here is the challenge I came up with to use our April Counterfeit kits!

I think we are all looking forward to being able to enjoy being out & about! What are you looking forward to? Dining at a favorite food spot? Movie night in the park? Gathering with neighbors/family for fun?

Now that I have you in a playful mood how about using some whimsy on your page by layering your patterned papers to fashion your own background with scenery & puffy clouds?  Your kit has already taken the work out of coordinating the products, so feel free to mix & match those patterns. And if that’s a little too overwhelming? Just layer them up behind your photo(s)!

I had some extra inspiration for this one that made it even more challenging! Here is the April inspiration over at Archi-scraps, where creative paper crafting is inspired by architecture:

Use pleating

I started with the idea of the pleats being sun rays formed (somehow!) from the striped paper &coaxing it into a fan shape. I used one of the stampsets in my kit to make the sun face & fussy-cut some sunglasses :D I stamped clouds on some good words for beachy fun and fussy-cut those. The "surf" was cut from a patterned paper that looked like waves to me and added to the striped beach. A little mixed media represents the water. A few beachy accents & a title finish it off!

I found this really fun & creative - I hope you did, too.

Don't forget what's left this month at Counterfeit Kit Challenge! There's plenty to keep you inspired this month so don't forget to come back here regularly for ideas and challenges. The rest of the month looks like this:

·         18th April: Challenge #2 - to inspire you to get creating from your own kit

·         24th April: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month

2   26th April: May Sneak Peek on social media

27   27th April: Killing Kits - An idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box

We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcapril2021).

040121 CKC April Kit Reveal

It's April! And we're not fooling at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog about setting down with our sweet Garden Party inspiration kit from Scrapbook Cards Today & pulling your own personal version. Perhaps you'll even make a forgery or two?

That being said, as the April Master Forger of Ceremonies, you are given permission to GO ROGUE! There's no punchline to this April Fool's Day - there are other SCT seasonal kits availabl here so feel free to follow your heart.

But first let's meet our April Guest Designer - you may remember her from February's Follower's Showcase shout-out!

Welcome Cathy Galloway!

Hi! I'm Cathy and I'm excited to be a guest designer this month. I started scrapbooking about 15 years ago but had been on a hiatus for many years when the pandemic started. During my enforced time at home, I chanced upon some scrapbook process videos on YouTube that inspired me to dig back into my stash. One year later, I am still going strong. Most of my scrapbook pages are 12x12 and often feature my daughter and grandson. I prefer scrapping daily life over occasions and my pages include tearing, layering, and stamping. I am looking forward to creating this month with this wonderful community of crafters.

Now let's go crash my Happy Days version of the Garden Party kit...

030121 CKC March Kit Reveal & Blog Hop

Looking forward to Spring!

Join us at Counterfeit Kit Challenge in introducing Master Forger of Ceremonies Clair's March kit inspiration & Guest Designer, Julie Kirk!

Julie is from beautiful Teesside, in the North East of England. She says: I started scrapbooking in the early 2000s, spent over a decade designing layouts and projects for craft magazines and design teams and, along the way, stopped scrapbooking just for me. Now I’ve come full circle and playing with paper and scissors is once again purely a hobby. As a lifelong paper and stationery lover I feel spoiled being asked to counterfeit for this particular month’ with its ‘Paper Addict’ theme! When I’m not ogling paper and stationery, you can find me obsessively reading contemporary romance novels, watching baseball games on Youtube, and talking about all of those things on Instagram. I’m @WithJulieKirk over there and you’re *so* welcome to drop by and say 'Hi' sometime.

 And our March inspiration kit:

The Lily Pad's Mommyish Paper Addict digital kit

My version (please pardon the inexplicably terrible photo quality):

I have a lot of PinkFresh Studio & October Afternoon, some true office supplies, including my Daddy's vintage Dymo machine, plus another whole mess of stuff that I will include on my Forgery on the Fourth post! I predict that we should all have a lot of fun with our March kits.
