030416 LOAD Wrap-Up

The last two weeks of LOAD were a whirlwind.

Day 15:Color - Australian flag red/white/blue
+WM#169 spring Starbucks cups & WM#129 blurry photo
This flag includes some stars whose shape reminds me of star quilt block patterns.
Okay - I will grant you - my "red" & "blue" are not the same as the Aussie flag :D
I had begun this background long ago for WM#169 & the blurry photo is a total fave.
I have the perfect cut-out diamond embelli that has been lurking for MONTHS... now hiding.

Day 16: Transportation/Car

I have had these pics ready to scrap for a long time.
I used mostly the February Felicity Jane kit, including the stitching template to make those arrows.
I'm looking for an old car key to add to that tag!

Day 17: Culture/Museum
+ WM#179 Use a navy, mint, pink & gold color scheme

I struggled a bit with this, but finally decided to showcase my collections in my studio.
They provide me a lot of inspiration & are quite the chronicle of my life.
Not my favorite result, design-wise, but happy to have it scrapped.

Day 18: Language/used a German phrase
"klein aber fein" - small, but lovely
The perfect title for this page about our little miracle. When Chloe celebrated her first birthday,
my daughter wrote the heartfelt words in the journaling on a Facebook post with this photo.
The floral is simply washi tape, and the tiny photo has tiny patterned papers matting it.

Day 19: Landmark/ Clingman's Dome, highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains.
I loved having this topography paper for the background!
This trail seemed almost vertical, and many other hikers were struggling.
It was with a great sense of accomplishment & relief that I reached the top.
The tobacco stick walking stick we got in Gatlinburg was essential to that success.
I put all the details in tiny type letters & part of the title in ghost letters right on the photo.

Day 20: Geography/a visit from a friend from a great distance
+WM#201 hearts

Used vintage Basic Grey on here with a few Maggie Holmes bits that Lisa D. brought me.
The title is a little twist on a Whimsical Musings inside joke.
The perfect green button on the tag is for Jemma!

Day 21: Food/Dutch pea soup
Alaska again. I loved finding that perfect map paper for the background, and the chip frame
which seems a perfect match but is new from some goodies won on Susan's blog.
I used the daily cruise schedule brochure behind the title photo & as a journaling block arrow.

That wraps up Week #3...

Day 22:  Color/flag
WM#201 Hearts
Music link HERE

This ornament on our door appears to be hanging on the cross (door panels) & reminded us that
On the cross, Jesus died for our sins.
On the cross, God poured out his heart of love for mankind.
On the cross, He brought peace between God & man.
On the cross, God poured out his blood, a spring of living water, that you might have eternal life.

The work is already finished. Will you accept that gift?

Day 23: Transportation/Boat

Alaska again. I will be adding pocket pages to each day's 12x12" highlight page.
Love how the Tim Holtz metal letters stand out on the black.

Day 24: Culture/Sports

Nothing more athletic than dancing!
This is a photo-less memory I have wanted to scrap forever,
especially after I found the Authentique "Nutcracker Sweet" paper line.
The leaping peachy pink ballerina forms my title with the Nutcracker Sweet emblem
mounted on an embellished punched snowflake with the music wafting across.
I even gave her a little punched snowflake "crown". All mounted on a Glitz ballerina
transparency with snowflakes tucked behind & in front.
I carefully cut the bottom strip of ballerina paper to suggest movement to reinforce my story,
and included a family Christmas photo from around the same era that the story took place.

Day 25: Language/Funny Word

This is the point in LOAD when I realize I am beginning to get "prompt-itis".

I am not telling my story, I am not even showing off a photo(s), but merely
falling down the prompt rabbit hole & producing something in response.
It is a fun word, though!
And obviously I thought it interesting when I saved it from Rachel Ray's magazine :-)
(More to the point, I couldn't find the ice cream cone photo I was looking for... sigh)

Day 26:Landmark: The Mackinac Bridge

"We are commonly know as 'trolls' in Michigan, since we live under the bridge :) "
Had to laugh - these letters are from 2006! The adhesive was completely dry.

Makes me VERY AFRAID to look at some of my older albums... =8-O
Here is the link for the live Bridge-cam. Have added it to my page.

There may be a companion page as we visited up there Christmas Eve.

Day 27: Geography: Bampa's lap

That's a geographical place, right? ;-)
An assortment of photos I just wanted down on a page together.

Day 28: Food: first cereal, 6 months old
+ CKC March kit

I used my kit & after I printed out the photo, I only had 20 minutes.

This was a great stretch of my scrappy muscles!

Day 29: Color/Red, black & gold + The Wrap Up Stack photo

33 pages this month! (not all for LOAD, but they count!)
Hit every prompt!
Didn't upload every day but very satisfied with my pages :-)

Journaling: I look around at the happy scrappy aftermath & wouldn't have it any other way.
So many dear, dear friends from around the globe.
How well we know each other from our pages - better than most we know in "real" life.
Scrap on, sistas! May your glue gun never run out & your ink pads never dry up. :-)

I bid a bittersweet but fond farewell to Lain Ehmann's LayoutADay challenge.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Wow! You really rocked this LOAD! What amazing pages you created this time around. I especially love the "small but lovely" page (precious photos and journaling) and the nutcracker page really made me smile. I'm glad that you posted your pages here - I wasn't as enthused with the prompts this time through and I missed a lot of layouts in the gallery. Are you keeping up the momentum or are you ready for a little scrappy break?

    1. Thanks, Susan! I struggled a lot with the prompts but gritted it out. It helped to have our Alaska photos as a fallback. I feel like I could definitely keep chugging along! Enjoyed using my FJ goodies a little bit in February :-)

  2. It's great to see that you were playing along every day even if you weren't uploading. And so many WM prompts completed. Perfect. I know what you mean about LOAD-itis. I managed to avoid that this time but there have been many pages int he past which I look at with wide eyes when I come across them as I put them in my albums! Isn't it funny how we all saw the prompts differently? I found the repetition so freeing for me and almost always kept on prompt. But I read so many people were a little frustrated. I'm interested to see how May makes me feel or if I'm "done"!
