I made two other pages today for March team assignments so this had to be quick.

Well, it's been quite a journey! I'm hoping to keep up daily scrapping + getting some albums done. They will be my traveling companions, I think, when we take a car trip. I'll keep working out of my notebook, too, plus looking for unscrapped photos in my digital archives...

A little cheeky play on words :D

I thought it would be fun to have a screenshot documented of my Facebook home screen.

LOAD16 Crystal ball - scrap a story you witnessed but were not a part of.

Uh-oh... I read this wrong! I missed the witnessed part - oh well - it's still a page. I am going to get the story from my in-laws when we next see them. They told us all about this car when we were looking at the photos but I can't remember the details, and thought it would be fun to do a He Said/She Said.. Do you like my crystal ball?

WM#128 + LOAD17 Incorporate more on your page using pull-out elements + poppies:

This prompt reminded me of the remembrance poppies. This is a wonderful WWII keepsake made because my father was in the Army serving & was the only living son in the household. The star in the top left corner tells us this & that he was an American (r/w/b colours.) The right top corner are the colours of the German flag, bottom left France's flag, and bottom right the Red Cross symbol.
I've included a little booklet print out of a practice that actually started in WWI of civilians knitting for the troops. They made socks & mufflers & headgear but at home even schoolchildren knit the squares you see here & afghans like this one were made & gifted.
The English motto, "Knit Your Bit" was adopted here in the U.S. I know this was precious to my grandmother as her oldest son had died of polio. It was quite an act of patriotism for many families to send an only son to fight in the war. I've included this on the back of my layout. I used my February CKC kit.

LOAD18 Off prompt. Valentine layout with my CKC February kit. Was determined to use this 2013 full page wood veneer - woohoo!

LOAD19 Make a statement on your page & use clouds.

I made the background white paper with the sentiment as a forgery for my January Counterfeit Kit & was glad to use it. I stitched the one balloon to bring attention to the little rider who is looking down (scared?) or is she praying?

WM#319 + LOAD20 Then & Now + off-prompt (use a photo of yourself)

I stumbled upon the older photos the other day - not sure why they aren't in the trip album? - and thought about the fact that Greg is 62 & doing the stair stepper & how perfect that photo would be with the others to tell this story. Then the WM#319 prompt yesterday! Meant to be documented today.

The skinny borders are quotes from Trip Advisor that backup the truth of the story while the larger one at the bottom sums up our experience there quite nicely.

LOAD 21 Use small & large embellishments for contrast.

This photo is close to 5 years old but one I've wanted to scrap for-ev-er. It is proof that you can make boy pages with Maggie Holmes paper. Most of the stickers are Sticko brand, which wouldn't come off the backing so every one of those teeny tiny pieces was fussy-cut! I got a cramp in my hand... The tire tracks are made with a model motorcycle I keep in my studio for just such an occasion.

Only one more week... and then Calvinball!

110718 Whimsical Musings #310

Be inspired by geometric animals - WM#310

Aren't these stunning? Lisa finds the most amazing inspiration at Whimsical Musings!

These reminded me so much of complex quilt patterns. An online search for images brought up a font that reminded me that I had a similar one - more on that later. It also turned up a tutorial on how to make one of these images yourself, known as polygonal vector images (link HERE.)

I've had these photos parked & waiting to be scrapped. I think perhaps the icy wolf reminded me of them. Then I recalled that I had stumbled across a 2015 My Mind's Eye/Niche die set in my scrapcave the other day & decided to use it to embellish my page.

I cut the white outlines out of glitter paper & used the off-cut pieces to fill in the spaces. It all got mounted on those white blanks with...

...my Xyron! It made such quick work of these embellishments.

I have discovered all sorts of buried treasure in my current revamp/purge of my studio!

I print at home so added my title directly onto the photo.

It is intended to appear transparent but I was able to drop color into various portions in PSE.

I think I achieved the challenge pretty well!

"I think you could easily find a link between one of these and a story to tell. Take the animals as themselves - hiking, zoos, trekking, a trip through the wilderness, something on your wishlist to see or go. There are the colours in the designs - gorgeous combinations for this time of year. There are the geometric designs which have been so cleverly used to create these 3D faces staring out at us. Use one or all three to inspire your own page and/or story."

112515 I'm Thankful for Happy Scrapping Time

It's been a little while since I've scrapped for fun.

Not for a deadline, not for a challenge, not with a kit...

First up, uber cute Addie!

I got a new leaf die & wanted to play with it.

I had a few leaves that were the wrong shade, and that big white space was really bugging me. Actually the color on the other side gives a nice tint to the shadow underneath. Happy accident.

Second up is a page for Whimsical Musings prompt #190: be inspired by pumpkins!

Here's a little of the thought process for this one. This was where I began...

I just needed to get all of those photos on the page.

I kept trying to think of what to do with that kraft background. Stamp it?

Who am I kidding? I want patterned paper!

I remembered this post from Susan Brochu with a technique dubbed, "reverse matting",

shown in this YouTube video by Tracy Banks aka Mercytiara.

I used that as a way to introduce some patterned paper.

It also makes a great place to tuck other papers into.

I had decided that I wanted a tiny touch of white to tie in with the white borders of the photos.

It looked great on the kraft, but I eventually traded the kraft for the subtle pattern that dramatically lightened & brightened the whole page. I couldn't forsake the kraft altogether so it made a reappearance as a third layer in the border which I finished off with machine stitching.

I wanted to dress up those title letters so I added a little floss detail.

I added a simple stitch to the edge of the featured photo as well to tie it all together.

There is a little secret twist. When I got most everything adhered it had all

gotten shifted too far to the left - ugh! I hunted up the embellishment pack & added

one more pumpkin & a random leaf to the title block. Voila!

To my American peeps: Don't eat too much pie tomorrow! Save some for breakfast on Friday, hehe...

061615 June CKC Challenge #3

This was my favorite challenge this month at Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog.

Challenge #3: One side or the other

Focus on only ONE side of your project

We just spent a week visiting Gatlinburg, Tennessee en route to Atlanta to see "the peaches."

We went to the Georgia Aquarium to celebrate their birthdays.
Chloe adored being up close & personal with the fishies!
She struck a pose more than once of gracefully moving as if she was swimming...

I knew I wanted to use this fish stamp, so I used a less than perfect image
to hold it's place on the start of my layout. The blue paper is standing in for the photo.

Then I used Archival Ink for a perfect image, and added an assortment of Distress Inks to add color.
This process always seems miraculous!
Just blot the ink pads on your mat, spritz with water, and sop up the ink.
Then I added a subtle spray of gold Color Shine.

Fussy cut, highlighted the crown with a gold pen, added a few tiny gems, and some Glossy Accents for the eye.
Makes me look like an artistic genius but the Ranger products did most of the work!

Because of the direction of the fish stamp I flipped the orientation R-L.
Then I decided that my white space could use some added pizzazz.

(It was really hard not to add any color on the left.)

A little vellum accent punched with "bubbles" is the perfect finishing touch.
